Okay, maybe we don’t need saving; we actually don’t mind at all if Waterparks wants to brainwash us. But their new single ‘BRAINWASHED’ has been stuck in our heads since it dropped a few days ago. The single comes from their upcoming 5th album Intellectual Property which we are so looking forward to.
Something about ‘BRAINWASHED’ and its visuals feels like a throwback to the Double Dare or Entertainment eras that made many of us fall in love with the band. Awsten playing the ukulele by the warm glow of a salt rock lamp feels so familiar to us, and we could watch the visual video on a loop. We’ve got to admit that we’ve spent a lot of our teenage years learning how to play Waterparks songs from Ukulele tabs on google. Just us? (Please say you did it too!)
As Awsten describes in the song, we also spent a lot of our teen years (and our adult years, tbh) feeling like we were ‘BRAINWASHED’ by the people we were into. Why do we like them so much? Are they really that funny that I had to laugh that hard? “Why am I acting like that?” These are all questions Awsten is asking during this song, and it makes it so relatable. It’s good to know that even people capable of writing songs like ‘TANTRUM’ and ‘Turbulent’ feel this way sometimes. Ah, the duality of man.

‘DREAM BOY’
If you love a bit of pop-rock, then you should check out ‘DREAM BOY’ from the band’s third studio album FANDOM. You know what? We can see this song appealing to everyone, pop, rock, k-pop, alternative; you name it, this song is likely to hit differently for you. Give it a listen, and let us know what you think! We also just love this video of bandmates Geoff and Otto just vibing the whole way through.
‘Snow Globe’
Anxious overthinker? Us too. And Waterparks, apparently. Want to just vibe for a little while?
