For three decades, Sheryl Crow has been a musical marvel. She’s given us heartbreak and fun-loving, girl power anthems alike. We’d even bet some of you aren’t afraid to bust out a Sheryl Crow masterpiece during karaoke night. As the years have gone by, she’s continued to evolve and grow as an artist… and we’ve grown right alongside her. As a continuous soundtrack to our lives, we celebrate the upcoming release of her latest project, Evolution, with a look at some of our favorite Sheryl Crow songs and lyrics!
‘Evolution’
With this new title track, Sheryl sheds light on her evolution. Hearing a voice from the past, she can sense that it’s her, but it is different than who she is now. That is evolution in a nutshell. Change. We are ever-changing as humans (just as Sheryl’s lyrics attest to!) ‘Evolution’ is a beautiful tribute to the person we were before, the person we are, and who we will be.
This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place. I said I’d never make another record, thought there was no point to it. But this music comes from my soul. And I hope whoever hears this record can feel that

‘Alarm Clock’
With her single, ‘Alarm Clock,’ Sheryl Crow brings her old-school lyricism into the new year. In what can only be described as a groovy take on the feeling you get from going through the mundane, average day, we’re reminded that at the root of it all… life truly is beautiful. Plus, who doesn’t relate to hating their alarm clock? Same, Sheryl. Same.
It’s a beautiful life. Blow your mind and make you say “Ah!” When I open my eyes, baby, that’s when the dreams stop.

‘All I Wanna Do’
Need a song to get you hyped for a night on the town with your friends? ‘All I Wanna Do’ has been that song since 1993! With a funky beat and infectious lyrics, it’s all about going out and taking on the world, from the bars to the carwash. Because, really, it doesn’t matter where you are as long as you have a good time!
Otherwise the bar is ours. The day and the night and the car wash too. The matches and the Buds and the clean and dirty cars. The sun and the moon.

‘If It Makes You Happy’
Not every day is going to be a great day. Sometimes life is going to beat you down; you’re going to feel tired. Defeated. It’s going to feel like your train is going off the tracks, and things won’t get better. We’ve all felt that way, including Sheryl Crow. But, if you can focus on what makes you happy – even the smallest things – then there’s still light in the world. “If it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad!” She’s right. Don’t give up, and find something to brighten your day.
You get down, real low down. You listen to Coltrane, derail your own train. Well, who hasn’t been there before?

‘Soak Up The Sun’
Like summer in a guitar, ‘Soak Up The Sun’ has always been a roll down your windows, let your hair down, and feel the warmth on your skin as you drive down the highway on your way to the beach. You can’t help but feel your worries melt away when Sheryl prompts us to take a beat every time we’re feeling a little down. Lighten up, bees, and soak up the sun!
For every time I feel lame I’m looking up I’m gonna soak up the sun.

‘The First Cut Is The Deepest’
Been through heartbreak? Then we feel it’s safe to assume you’ve had a good cry (or many) to this one. ‘The First Cut Is The Deepest’ is all about the first heartbreak that you’ll never forget. While the pain can make it hard to trust or find love again, Sheryl knows that it’s not impossible. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and dry those tears. Love is always possible!
I still want you by my side just to help me dry the tears that I’ve cried.

And I’m sure gonna give you a try if you want, I’ll try to love again, try
