Over the years, some of our favorite Tate McRae content has come from Vevo, including her 2020 DSCVR performances, 2022 ‘she’s all i wanna be’ performance, and 2023 Footnotes video breakdowns! This kind of content brings songs we already loved to life in such a refreshing way, showing off more of Tate’s talent and letting us appreciate her art on a whole new level. Now, she and Vevo have come together for a new short film, THINK LATER, which is the latest edition of Vevo’s Extended Play performance series!
I am so honored to have collaborated with Vevo on this project. I’ve admired Vevo’s unique ability to capture live performances so beautifully and artistically for a long time. A big thank you to [director] Liz Hart, whose vision guided us throughout the special day!

THINK LATER is a 15-minute celebration of Tate’s 2023 album of the same name, as well as her career and artistic growth so far. It includes performances of ‘exes,’ ‘we’re not alike,’ and ‘hurt my feelings,’ on top of an exclusive interview that was so fun to watch. Press play on THINK LATER below, then let’s discuss!
The Opening ‘exes’ Performance
Wow, what a way to kick off this special! ‘exes’ is one of Tate’s biggest hits to date, so it’s the perfect way to start off THINK LATER with a bang and get viewers excited for the rest of the film. It lets Tate show off her star power and some gorgeous vocals, and we love how luxurious the set is! Wouldn’t it be cool to see her do a small show in a room like this?
Telling Us The Stories Behind Songs
Something else we love about the THINK LATER interview clips is that we got to hear more about Tate songs we love! She explained that she wrote ‘exes’ after she thought she already had the THINK LATER album finished, and she had the most fun with writing these songs when she wasn’t thinking too hard about it. Can you believe she finished the track in an hour?!
Reflecting On Her Career So Far
The interview clips in THINK LATER are so insightful and really let us step into Tate’s mindset as an artist! She’s been a staple on our playlists for years now, and it’s been incredible to watch her grow since we first came across her music. Her interviews give us some context on how she’s feeling about it all, discussing how she found her voice, her artistic perspective, and more.
I think it’s taken a lot of time to figure out who Tate is. I mean, I’m 20 and I started in this music industry when I was, like, 15. So for so many years, I feel like I went listening to everyone and what they wanted me to be, and what they wanted me to say. I’ve really figured out what my style is, what I like to write about.

Looking In The Mirror
We adored the entire ‘we’re not alike’ performance (because how could we not?!) but our favorite moment is when Tate looks in the mirror before the final chorus. It was such a cool detail that reflects how the girl in the song isn’t similar to Tate, and Tate would never mirror the things she did.
Sitting On The Floor
You can really tell these performances had a lot of thought in them because the ‘hurt my feelings’ set also has details that reflect the story! Tate’s sitting on the floor like she’s feeling low, and the sun shines on her face as she sings. It’s like she’s finally seeing the light and realizing how this person has affected her. It’s also the only performance where you don’t see any band members, so Tate is alone sorting through her feelings like she was during this situation.
