10 FLETCHER Lyrics To DM Your Crush So You Can Stop ‘Pretending’ You Don’t Like Each Other

Like a practiced dance routine involving many intertwining limbs, FLETCHER begins the music video for ‘Pretending’ by counting the times her tea bag saunters into her mug: “One, two, three, four.” Ironically, each number represents a place in the house she makes out with her situationship in. There’s the kitchen, foremost. That’s the likely place, considering it’s where she makes the said tea and then has Kitten (we’re adopting names here, but it also sprawls out on the brunette’s tank top) against the fridge. Then there’s the bathroom, the bedroom, the living room, and yep, there’s not one place in that Californian crib that their lips have yet to touch! However, the most important is probably near the pool, not because it’s different in that they’re now outside, but because another FLETCHER is looking on.

It ties into the whole symbolism of ‘Pretending,’ wherein we still hang out in this limbo phase despite you both knowing where this is going. Don’t wanna label it yet? Cool. We don’t want to either. Though, that’s a lie, and you get the point! FLETCHER looking at her making out with Kitten illustrates two sides of her: the primal one doing the making out and the intuitive one taking the backseat, not acting out on the truth of the situation. It’s as if she sort of abandons herself at that moment. Similar to another shot, a circular hole in the wall shows Kitten with her back to FLETCHER as FLETCHER sits on the bed, watching her.

FLETCHER, Can You Leave Us A Voicemail?

However, we want happy endings around here. The only way for that to happen is to stop the ‘Pretending’ and speak the truth! So we’ve curated together 10 lyrics from FLETCHER’s latest album, In Search Of The Antidote, each to make your crush realize that you like them.

‘Ego Talking’

Hope my lips haunt you for life / Hearin’ my name twists the knife

Okay, so this lyric doesn’t exactly qualify as cutesy! Especially once we begin hoping that any part of us gives them dead. Whether it is them smelling our distinct perfume in a shopping mall or a song we danced to in the wee hours of the morning, it suddenly floats through Spotify’s sound system. In a more hopeful context, though, there is something essentially poetic about hoping that our “lips haunt you for life,” or rather any part of us, just knowing that our crush engraves us in their memory.

‘Two Things Can Be True’

I don’t wanna be him, I still wanna lay in your head / Yeah, I still wanna be known to you, baby

You don’t need to see another social media post saying that situationships are complicated, as you’ve probably lived through them! But when it really does is when the other person is on the verge of moving on, and you’re beginning to like someone else. So it’s okay for them to do so. But you also selfishly want to stick around in their memory. This lyric is for that sort of text.

‘Eras Of Us’

How are you doin’? / Where have you been? / I’ve been practicin’ this moment for like twenty-somethin’ years in my head

Take this lyric in two contexts! The first is that meet-cute moment when you run into someone else who you claim, “this is my soulmate!” Thereby letting go of the five other people with roughly the same silhouette and cookie-shaped cut personalities that you once said that to. We have a type, okay? Sue us. Then, there’s the other, where you run into someone again, in the case of FLETCHER’s. Maybe some time has passed, idealizing that future moment in your brain, that when it does happen, it rushes by all too quickly.

I’m New York City (I’m New York City) / You were L.A. (You were L.A.) / I would fly across the country just to kiss you and be back in a day (Oh-oh-oh)

This is for all of these long-distance crushes. It’s a crushing feeling that you can’t spontaneously run into the person you love. All the same, when those lovely sentiments do take over, you really would fly anywhere, even if it just meant one kiss.

‘Attached To You’

I know my mom / She’d make you your favorite dish / She’d be obsessed with you quick

If you plan to send your crush this FLETCHER lyric, then you’re in super deep! It’s natural to wonder what they would be like around our families and how well they would blend in with them when we genuinely like someone. It’s better than the opposite reaction, at least.

‘Crush’

I see heaven when you crush me under the weight of your body

Like this reaction, per se. It doesn’t exactly scream healthy, nor does the song itself. Sometimes you like someone more than you like yourself (which we’re warning you not to do) and therefore would be happy even if they crushed your heart because at least they noticed you!

‘Joyride’

I think she’s out of my league, and I’m out of my mind / Now we’re both going down, shooting stars out the sky / Nobody catches the girl, double dare you to try / Steal the keys to my heart, take it out for a joyride

Quick! Can someone toss us the keys to their Malibu convertible so we can drive down the coast and listen to this absolute summer tune? On the surface, it has the gritty sexualism of FLETCHER, but underneath it, it’s all about the escape, the getaway from feelings. Like, let’s see if you can catch us and break down our walls!

‘Antidote’

Launch me into your sky / Remind me I’m alive

This lyric is so visually perfect. We are ready to jump into their mess of a cannonball just to scatter across their lives momentarily like fireworks. It has a chance of explosion, but that spectacle of color sure is beautiful.

‘Pretending’

“Turn back around, and never leave” / I typе it out as if that’s the text I’m sending

Maybe there’s a chance that we’re not the most communicative around our crushes. Hence, we rely on FLETCHER lyrics to get us by. Regardless, there’s still a list of things we have in our heads that we would like to say, and one of them is wanting them to stay.

As if I’m not what you’re waiting for / Like I’m not in your ending

Intuition is one of the strongest players in the game of love, and sometimes, you just know what the ending will look like. It’s clearly you being with your crush. But just as intuition is one of those variables, so is time, and the waiting sucks.

If writing a lyric into the tiny iMessage box isn’t enough, perhaps with her New Jersey swag, hearing FLETCHER shout for you to “press send” will! You know she’d make you, even if she knows a thing about running away from love, too. Hey, we’re selfishly not complaining! It gave us In Search Of The Antidote, after all. After you send that romantically frisky text, let us know how it works out @thehoneypop! And follow us on our Facebook and Instagram accounts for the antidote to your FLETCHER needs.
