Jo O’Meara Talks ‘Sweet Surrender’ and New Album With Love !

We are back with another interview and this time it is with the iconic Jo O’Meara. You might remember her from the S Club 7 days, and we are stoked to bring you the news that she has released her new solo album, With Love!

Now Jo has kept a pretty low profile since her days in S Club 7, but she is finally back and showing that her voice was the soundtrack to our lives. When she released ‘On The Surface,’ which is the lead single from With Love, she showed that she will never be forgotten. The track shot up the charts and was number one on the iTunes Pre-Order charts. This helped get her to get a guest spot on the daytime TV show, This Morning, in the UK.

We won’t drone on for much longer, so without further ado, here is the interview with Jo!

You released ‘Sweet Surrender’ from your album, With Love, recently. How has the reaction been for you?
The reaction has been amazing …It’s been nice to do something a little different!

‘Sweet Surrender’ is an upbeat track that talks about falling for the wrong person even though we’ve been warned and advised against doing so. This unfortunately is only too relatable to all generations. What advice would you give to someone who is dealing with this right now?
It really is something I think most girls will do in their lifetime but I don’t understand the attraction? But we have all been guilty of it at some point lol !! I think the only advice I would give someone is if it doesn’t feel right, or you have a gut feeling….then you are probably right and stay away!

Another track that you recently released was ‘On The Surface,’ which has a different vibe than ‘Sweet Surrender.’ What was the writing process like for this song?
I love the song ‘On the Surface’ it’s defo in my top 3 from the album! Writing it felt very authentic and natural. I wanted to just reach out to people who are struggling, to say, you must talk and don’t hold things in. Be proud of who you are and keep going!!

When you go into a writing session, do you usually already have a topic or feeling in mind, or does the beat or vibe come first for you?
It’s different with every song… sometimes it can start with a story idea and the music will develop through the lyric of the song. And other times the music will come first and then the lyrics! It all depends on the mood you are in on certain days!!

Now, it’s been a long time since the S Club 7 days, but is there a favorite memory you have that you would like to share with our readers?
There were so many memories during my time in S Club 7. Lots of highs and a few lows too…but I think performing for the Queen at the Golden Jubilee will always stay in my mind as a stand-out moment!

Your album With Love came out on August 27. What can you tell us about it?
The album is to date the best work I’ve delivered,  I’m so proud of it.  There is something for everyone on there…. some classic covers, some r and b vibes, even a little touch of country, through to power ballads! I want to experiment with different genres and I feel I’ve done this.

How much did your recording process differ from normal amidst the pandemic as you completed the album?
We managed to get back to the studio as soon as the first lockdown was lifted. There were very minimal people in the studio and we just recorded everything we could in a short space of time! In some ways, it was easier to focus on the job. I always love being in the studio, it’s my happy place so I loved every second I was there!

You’ve gotten to work with a lot of talented creatives on this album, Kjetil Mørland, Nicky Mac, and Brian Rawling to name a few. How was that experience and are there any fond memories you can share with us about the writing and production process?
I’m so lucky to be working with such a fantastic team and lovely people. We laugh every day! The talent that comes from Metrophonic is just phenomenal, I feel very blessed to be a part of that!!

Where did you grab your inspiration for this album?
The inspiration has genuinely come from my love of music…I love everything about it !!

Is there anything you can tell us about the rest of the tracks on With Love?
Every song on this album was made with my whole heart and with love! Which is why it was the obvious album name… I really hope everyone enjoys it! ❤️
