If Elvis Presley was the King of rock’n’roll, then Doja Cat is most definitely the Queen of hip hop. In the last year alone, Doja has released multiple bangers that perfectly show off her vocal abilities and rapping prowess, even receiving her first GRAMMY award for her most recent album, Planet Her. As well as her own personal discography, Doja Cat has also lent her voice to different film soundtracks throughout her career, notably the flawless Birds of Prey soundtrack in 2020. However, more recently we have seen Doja lend her voice to the upcoming Elvis soundtrack with her newest song and accompanying, ‘Vegas.’
From what we’ve seen in the trailer, the video perfectly captures the vibe of the film and would definitely make Elvis himself proud. We at THP particularly enjoyed the dancers in the music video, as we felt as though they accurately represented our own reactions to the song. Or just to any Doja Cat song, if we’re being honest. We also, of course, have to mention that Doja is impeccably styled in the video. We simply couldn’t take our eyes off of her!
While the video was only released on June 3rd, Doja originally debuted the song at her headline Coachella set this year and we at THP really would’ve given anything to see it live. The song highlights Doja Cat’s sheer versatility and range as an artist, as she can incorporate a rock song like ‘Hound Dog’ into her own unique style and still have it sound like something new and fresh. We have no choice but to stan! The song and music video feature Shonka Dukureh who will also be appearing on the upcoming soundtrack, due to be released on June 24th.
As well as Doja Cat and Shonka Dukureh, the soundtrack will also feature some of THP’s favorite artists such as Måneskin, Stevie Nicks, Jazmine Sullivan, and Eminem. With this kind of star power, it is definitely going to be one of the best soundtracks of the year so make sure you mark down the release date in your calendars!
Along with the soundtrack, the Elvis film will also be released in the US on June 24th, starring both Tom Hanks and Austin Butler. Directed by Baz Luhrman, the film depicts the life of Elvis Presley and his rise to stardom through the relationship he maintained with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. In the past, Baz Lurhman has also directed iconic films such as The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge!, and if these films are any indication of what we can expect from Elvis, then we at THP think that we’re in for another exciting cinema experience that we simply can’t take our eyes away from!
