This past weekend, Lay Zhang and Amber Liu hosted an exclusive press conference to discuss their upcoming performances at MetaMoon Fest and answer other fun questions! Here is a recap of the press conference.
Lay Zhang
Lay Zhang is really looking forward to his return back to the US to perform on the stage again after a long time. He also discussed his thoughts on the power of music and the growth of Asian music in the West. Lay said that “music is powerful” and “music can overcome language barriers.” You could tell that he really appreciates that music can bring people together from many different cultures and walks of life. Lay also talked about his experience singing in three different languages: English, Korean, and Mandarin. He is obviously more comfortable singing in his native language but expressed that it is equally difficult singing in English and Korean.
Besides music, Lay is also into fashion. When asked about his sense of style and what he likes fashion-wise, he said he prefers “athletic and casual.” Additionally, Lay was asked about what he was looking forward to doing while visiting New York for MetaMoon, and he was really excited about eating hot dogs. He exclaimed that there are many delicious foods in America that he really enjoys eating. In terms of his upcoming performance, Lay explained that he has been preparing all year for his MetaMoon performances, so we know it will be a great show. He also mentioned that some krumping might be involved, so please look forward to it!

Amber Liu
Amber Liu spoke a lot about her writing process and upcoming music. She communicated that her upcoming album is her best work yet, so stay tuned! Amber also said that there is a lot of “colorfulness” coming and that she is “nervous but excited” about her new album coming soon. Regarding her MetaMoon performance, she will be performing songs that she has not performed yet, and there will be a live band involved, so it will definitely be EPIC! When asked what Amber enjoys most about performing, she said she can just let go, worry about nothing else, and enjoy the moment with her fans.
In case you were curious about Amber’s creative process, she goes about writing songs in an organic way. She gets inspired in the shower or even while on the phone with friends. Sometimes she just plays on the mic until she hears something she likes. Amber jokingly said that she is often running around looking for her phone when she gets an idea that just pops into her mind. In addition, out of all of her songs, ‘Easier’ is the song that Amber feels represents who she is the best.
If you were someone who was anticipating attending one of the shows during her tour, don’t worry because Amber said that the tour will most likely resume next year! During our time with Amber, she was open and vulnerable about her personal journey over the years and conveyed that she has been focusing on her mental health lately. She also provided some advice for people just starting in the music industry. Amber gave some encouraging words such as “keep going and stay curious” and “it’s okay to take a nap.” Amber ended the press conference by answering a fun question about her favorite Pokémon.
