One thing that pop icon Lay Zhang (of EXO) has always done is be incredibly honest. Whether it’s through music, fashion, acting, or his charity work, Lay has always stayed true to himself and to his fans. Now with his brand new mini album West, he’s continuing to show us the true authenticity of Lay Zhang.
Lay is a pop sensation who has been at the forefront of the music industry for a decade now, and that’s not gonna change any time soon. West is a dynamic, globe-spanning album that shows us every side of this multi-faceted artist!
West is a 5-track EP that opens and closes with lead single ‘Veil’ (one version in Mandarin and one in English). The full-circle feeling that the listening experience gives us is reminiscent of Lay as a performer, a perfect all-rounder. The b-sides just further showcase his ability to incorporate diverse influences, and we couldn’t be more in love with them.
Lay Is Lifting The ‘Veil’
Title track ‘Veil’ intertwines Chinese erhu sounds with R&B influences and trap beats. The music video is visually stunning too! Lay renews his reputation as an artist who fully realizes concepts, dancing flawlessly through the streets as Mahjong tiles fly through the air. (Side note: we want that pink outfit more than anything!)
With every part of this album’s concept, from the music to the styling and everything in between, Lay seems completely comfortable. In ‘Veil,’ he sings: “Tell me all your secrets you ain’t gotta be cautious,” which seems to be the exact attitude he’s taking with his audience too!
Lay X THP
In an exclusive quote for The Honey POP, Lay Zhang said “West is a project I hold close and I’ve been creating for a while. I hope the fans enjoy this new body of work.” We certainly will!
We need to take a moment to say we’re so jealous of any fans that will get to see Lay perform tracks from West (or any of his songs TBH) live. Lay has shows coming up in Malaysia and Singapore in October. After that, he’ll headline MetaMoon Festival in New York in November!
If you haven’t listened to West yet (first of all, how?), you can do so right here!
