There’s always a great story behind the lyrics of our favorite songs, and this new single by Fritz Hager is no exception!
Fritz Hager launched his career by participating in American Idol in 2022. Between winning the hearts of America and impressing the Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, he was teasing his first EP drop. In fact, it was entirely crowd-funded, and his single ‘Hearts Align’ peaked at number 5 on the Alternative Charts.
The Meaning Behind the Single
On Friday, Jan. 12, Fritz Hager released his first single since Idol, titled ‘Caroline’ dedicated to one-night stands everywhere.
Hager experimented with his sound throughout the last year and described himself as “an indie guy.” In other words, he works to combine storytelling with an element of truth, set to music. ‘Caroline’ perfectly encapsulates this vision.
“….I like to describe ‘Caroline’ as a sitcom cold open put to music, It’s a story about the morning after a one-night stand and the narrator trying to find a clever way to remember her name. In real life, this guy is an asshole for sure, but in a sitcom, the audience is rooting for him. I think that this song achieves the same thing.”

The main male character in the song “woke up to a different ceiling,” and now has to piece the foggy memories of last night to figure out who the girl in the bed next to him is. The song was co-written by Drew Pearson and Fransico Martin, featuring Martin on the drums.
