Purple Kiss Have Us Mesmerized With ‘Sweet Juice’

Purple Kiss are back stronger than ever with their fifth mini-album, Cabin Fever, and the title track ‘Sweet Juice.’ This group has already set the bar so high for themselves, and yet they meet it every single time and go beyond our wildest dreams. Purple Kiss really outdid themselves with this one and everyone needs to hear about it.

‘Sweet Juice’

‘Sweet Juice’ is everything we’ve ever needed from Purple Kiss. It screams their name but at the same time, this is so unique as a Purple Kiss title track. They bring mystery to a whole other level with ‘Sweet Juice.’ It lures you into a whole other world, traps you, and seduces you. ‘Sweet Juice’ is so subtle in the way it’s addictive. The instrumental alone is absolutely insane taking inspiration from classical music, but add that to their beautiful voices and you get an absolute masterpiece. And we would go as far as to say that it holds one of Yuki’s best rap verses to date. Purple Kiss outdid themselves with this one. We knew how good they are but they truly blew us away.

By far one of the big highlights of this release is the music video. While it is not surprising for Purple Kiss to have an incredible music video, we’ve seen what they’ve done before, this one is just on another level. It’s not only about the aesthetics, the outfits, and their most innovative choreography to date but also about the concept. This time Purple Kiss drew inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s classic film The Shining. There are so many references to catch on to. Purple Kiss don’t copy The Shining by any means – they take the classic and turn it in a way that makes it truly special. They set their music video in a hotel – called ‘Insolito’ which can be loosely translated from Spanish as unusual, strange, and unlikely. It’s creepy, it’s fun, and it’s just absolute perfection.

Cabin Fever

Would it be one of Purple Kiss’ best releases if the b-sides weren’t equally as memorable as the title track? Indeed, Cabin Fever did not disappoint in the slightest. The b-sides are incredible and complement the title track perfectly, making this mini-album one of their more cohesive works ever. Now, you know that means a lot when every single Purple Kiss mini-album is literal perfection.

Of course, Cabin Fever starts with an intro: ‘Intro: Save Me.’ As per usual, Purple Kiss released this song ahead of time showcasing one of their most insane performances yet. Truly, there’s something about these intros that just hit, and ‘Intro: Save Me’ is no different. It’s mysterious and it lures you right into the world of Purple Kiss’ ‘Sweet Juice.’

All the songs in the mini-album, apart from the intro, count with the members’ participation. ‘T4KE’ is even more special because Chaein and Yuki not only wrote the lyrics, but Chaein also composed it. And this song is a massive highlight from the release. It has a similar energy to ‘Sweet Juice’ and could perfectly be a title track as well. It has that same mysterious energy and feels very powerful with its slightly more pop influence.

We’ve seen Purple Kiss tap on the retro trend before with songs such as ‘Pretty Psycho‘ from their third mini-album, MemeM. And they’ve done it again – but in a much different way, because no two Purple Kiss songs could ever sound the same. ‘Autopilot’ and ‘agit’ are two songs that fit into retro music. ‘Autopilot’ is more on the city pop side, with its empowering yet bittersweet vibe. The ending of the song is also a surprise but one of the most beautiful moments in the entire mini-album. Meanwhile, ‘agit’ is much brighter and feel-good. It’s lively and it’s fun and brings the energy to a whole other level.

To wrap up this mini-album, we have ‘So Far So Good’ – a sweet pop ballad about falling for someone and getting to know them. While their insane vocals shine throughout the EP, this is the moment that focuses more on them. And what better way to end a perfect release?
