BTS’ j-hope is one of the greatest living live performers, in this essay we will… Just kidding, we’re not writing an essay (today). But the statement is still true! Jung Hoseok AKA j-hope AKA Hobi is the ultimate popstar, and has gifted us with some truly phenomenal performances over the last decade. We take any opportunity we can get to celebrate him, and today is no different.
This time, we’re taking a look at some of our favorite solo performances from j-hope (or BTS performances of his solo songs!). How we managed to narrow it down to seven, we’ll never know. If you haven’t seen each and every video on this list, that needs to change. Like, now!
‘= (Equal Sign)’ With IU On j-hope In The Palette
j-hope and IU performing live together? Two icons for the price of one! ‘= (Equal Sign)’ is one of the most beloved tracks on Jack In The Box, and this performance just makes us even fonder of it. IU is one of K-Pop’s greatest vocalists, and we love what she brings to this rendition!
‘Boy Meets Evil’ At 2016 MAMAs
‘Boy Meets Evil’ is one of our favorite BTS album intros because it sets the tone of WINGS so perfectly. This MAMAs performance does that too, with Hobi’s dance solo followed by his iconic pair dance with a blindfolded Jimin. Plus, we get all that before the performance transitions into OT7 ‘Blood Sweat & Tears,’ one of BTS’ biggest hits.
‘MORE’ & ‘Arson’ At 2022 MAMAs
From the MAMAs six years ago, to the most recent ceremony! Picking up several awards – some as a solo artist and some on BTS’ behalf – j-hope stole the show at the 2022 MAMAs. His performance was one of our faves from all the end-of-year ceremonies, and he truly unleashed the Jack In The Box on the K-Pop industry with this one!
‘Just Dance’ At LOVE YOURSELF: SPEAK YOURSELF
Ask any ARMY what some of their fondest Hobi moments are, and there’s a pretty good chance this song will get a mention. ‘Just Dance’ gave us some truly iconic performances, from his choreo timing with the water cannons, to the “j-hope” chants at Wembley that genuinely took him by surprise. We’re not exaggerating when we say it makes us cry if we think about it too long. Luckily, this KBS version lives rent-free in our heads, too.
New Year’s Rockin Eve 2023
Could there have been a better way for us to ring in 2023 than with Hoseok? If that hat wasn’t enough to get you in the festive spirit, then the Holiday Remix of ‘Butter’ surely will. We love BTS’ 2020 performance at New Year’s Rockin Eve, so we couldn’t be happier to have this edition, too!
‘Chicken Noodle Soup’ at BTS MUSTER SOWOOZOO
Ok, so we’re cheating with this one. It’s not a solo j-hope performance, but it is an OT7 performance of a Hobi solo song, so we’re counting it. SOWOOZOO was one of our favorite weekends as ARMY and we’re still not over the performances of ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’ and ‘Daechwita.’ Anyways, “popping, popping, popping, woah.”
Hobipalooza
July 31st, 2022, AKA the day Jung Hoseok truly came for our necks. j-hope had broken Lollapalooza records before he’d even set foot on the stage, and then his performance exceeded our every expectation. It’s one of the most incredible sets we’ve ever seen, and honestly should be required viewing for every ARMY at least once a month.
