10 K-Pop B-Sides That Are Totally Slept On

In the world of K-Pop, the title track usually dictates if someone is going to like a comeback or even stan a group. Sometimes though, it doesn’t dictate how the rest of the album sounds. What happens to those b-sides that artists put just as much work and energy into when someone doesn’t like the initial title track? Often, they get ignored except by those dedicated fans of the group. Because of this, the team at THP compiled a list of K-pop b-sides that deserve more love!

‘Pretty Psycho’ By Purple Kiss

If you’re looking to party, look no further. Purple Kiss may claim that they’re pretty psychos, but the only thing insane about them is how catchy this song is. While some of their fans, called Plory, talk about how incredible this song is, we definitely don’t think it’s enough. The choreography that was released for it is incredible and the members look stunning and the song itself deserves more love. If you’re feeling like a “freaky purki”, be sure to check out other tracks from Purple Kiss such as ‘Oh My Gosh‘ and ‘Love is Dead!’

You Better Run‘ By Girls’ Generation

Fifteen years after their debut, Girls’ Generation dropped the summer anthem ‘Forever 1’ which took Korea by storm as the girls, now women, finally returned after a five-year hiatus with the album of the same name. Now, it’s hard to ignore that the title is a heartfelt work of art that had K-pop fans, specifically SONES, worldwide emotional. Why is it though, that K-pop Twitter seemed to overlook ‘You Better Run?’ It gave the members a more mature sound. Perfect for the women they became, as they sing about how they were going to come back to bite the haters when they’ll comeback. The concept of the song is perfect for a group that spent the last five years of hiatus facing rumors surrounding potential disbandment.

If you’re looking for more SNSD B-sides and want one that sounds like it’s straight of summer, check out ‘Party,’ but if you’re looking for something that will give you the 2nd generation nostalgia, then ‘Mr. Taxi‘ is for you.

‘Hide and Seek’ By Ghost9

Ghost9 is a lesser-known boy group that had the misfortune of debuting in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. They made the most of their situation, though, and amassed a loyal fanbase called Ghosties, by turning out banger mini-album after banger mini-album. Just because of how chock-full each mini album is of great music, it’s no one’s fault that tracks like the powerful ‘Hide and Seek’ might be overlooked by fans and non-fans alike. The song is a love song with a darker subtext, one that could be supernatural in nature.
If ‘Hide and Seek’ is your speed and you want to hear more from Ghost9, the group has ‘Always, All Ways’ and ‘Lay back,’ two songs, while rarely spoken about, are widely loved by the fans.

Chemicals‘ by Key

Coming off of his solo debut album, SHINee member Key’s B-side ‘Chemicals’ shows what truly makes him great. From the thumping bass in the instrumental to the contrast of the layering of his harmonies, the song is one we have on repeat, and can’t believe fans don’t talk about more. He may be crazy for our chemicals, but we surely are crazy for this entire song. If you are looking for more Key songs to get your fix, we recommend ‘Saturday Night‘ from his first mini album Bad Love or ‘Guilty Pleasure‘ from Gasoline. Despite the titles of these songs, you won’t feel guilty listening to them, and they’re perfect for any night of the week.

‘Girl Friend’ By Rocket Punch

Even though Rocket Punch is still relatively unknown, the quality of the music they release is extraordinary. Girl Friend is no exception to that quality either. Coming from their second mini-album, Red Punch, the song is about a girl being shy to express her feelings to the person she’s interested in, but here at THP we aren’t shy about how much we love this song! If you can’t get enough of Girl Friend, be sure to check out ‘Moon Prism‘ and ‘In My World!’

Rose‘ By GOT the beat

Even though this girl supergroup created by SM Entertainment has absolute bangers like ‘Step Back’ and ‘Stamp On It,’ the B-sides of their recent albums smash too! Their B-side, ‘Rose,’ gives off a mature vibe to the girls, describing themselves as a pretty rose but with thorns that could prick easily. Accompanied by trap and hip-hop, this song is truly a go-to if you ever want to feel confident about yourself! Other songs we recommend are ‘Goddess Level‘ and ‘Alter Ego.’ You will surely feel on top with these anthems!

Blinder‘ By KINGDOM

If you are a sucker for fantasy concepts, Kingdom is the group for you. This seven-member group of kings released an album based on one of the members, and this B-side is off of leader Dann’s album. ‘Blinder’ gives off a vibe of an epilogue song at the end of the movie. It gives us so much energy, and it’s on a loop all day! Other sides we recommend are ‘Burn’ and ‘Magical.’
