‘Flames’ (feat. Avril Lavigne)

After seeing the name of this song, you’re probably already intrigued. How could you not be? A song that features pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne is automatically considered to be a bop and a half. The song was released on January 8, 2021, under Big Noise Music Group, and produced by the legend himself, John Feldmann. With this release, we were blessed with a beautiful acoustic version of the song and were given music videos for both versions.

This song expresses the feelings of longing for the flame of a relationship to revive. MOD SUN talks about the passion of a past relationship and how he still has his own ignited flame. In other words, he wasn’t ready for it to end.

Avril sings over a gentle piano and acoustic tune before the song bursts into a powerful melody. Just as the lyrics speak of a love dying, the instruments are faded and soft, but, as the lyrics build into a conversation of passion, the music picks up, matching this exactly.

This connection between the music and lyrics is, unfortunately, something that not all musicians manage to get right, but we are so glad that MOD SUN and Avril managed to do exactly that.

Take a listen:

‘Karma’

We just mentioned a song about still loving an ex, but now we’re going to turn in the complete opposite direction. ‘Karma’ is a song about hoping your ex gets all the bad things that are coming their way.

🎶 “Karma’s a b*tch, I heard.” 🎶

In this song, MOD SUN talks about a past toxic relationship. This song is the epitome of a “scream song,” a.k.a a song that you blast in the speakers of your car as you drive while screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs because how else does one express their emotions? It’s an anthem of frustration and a song that makes you feel powerful, not letting your ex’s past errors affect you! Therefore, it’s a must-add to your playlist.

Take a listen:

‘Revenge’

Talking about anthems, here’s another one to add to your music library. If you thought that ‘Karma’ is the best song for calling out your ex, you would be incorrect. ‘Revenge’ definitely takes the cake. The song talks about how we can hate someone so much and yet still love everything that they do.

“You make me feel so sick, sick to my stomach / I hope you feel like sh*t / That’s why I love it, I love it.”

‘Drive’

Ever feel like you aren’t in control of your own life? Like everyone else is telling you what to do, how to live, what to be, and how to feel? More than that, do you ever feel like you’re falling behind in life? You just want to go through life and be happy. It feels like everyone has an ulterior motive; wanting to have success, and not caring what they have to do to get it. Well, we’ve definitely felt that way, and so has MOD SUN. But, we’re here to tell you that there is no need to feel all alone anymore because we’re all pushing through this together.

“Everybody wants to be somebody else, sometimes.”

In this song, MOD uses the analogy of comparing his life to driving. “When you gonna let me drive?” he sings. The lyricism perfectly explains the feeling of having no control over your life, like if you never get your own license, you’re simply being driven by everyone else.

MOD SUN gave a small insight into his thoughts behind the song on Finn Mckenty‘s podcast: “Everybody wants to turn themselves into a brand. Everyone wants to seem to force something, even when they may not believe it. And it’s just the authenticity being delivered back to it and being vulnerable with it. I think more than ever before; we are in a generation of comparison. We are able to visually look at people’s success; we can actually see it as a number. If everyone is walking around with a number on them, and that’s how you validate things in this world, and I think it’s always been a thing, but now more than ever.”

So, whenever you are feeling down, alone, and lack control, just remember that you aren’t alone. We’re here for you, and so is MOD SUN. We want you to take the wheel!

‘Eyelids’

This song is purely focusing on MOD’s overflowing love for Avril. Back in 2022, the two announced their engagement, so, of course, this makes total sense. However, very unfortunately, the two have broken things off and are no longer together. Nevertheless, that doesn’t change the fact that this song is a banger and a must-add!

“Your face is painted on the inside of my eyelids / I hear your voice every time there is silence.”

This song belongs on a list of top love songs. Of course, we love our soft, romantic, gentle love songs, but there is nothing like the expression of pop-punk artists! This song dives deep into an explanation of how all-consuming love is!

Well, there you have it: 5 of our favorite pop-punk songs MOD SUN has ever blessed the world with! After this, we hope you run and jump into the world of MOD SUN, and that all of your playlists overflow with his fantastic music!
