Get Psyched Because Say Anything Is Back With New Song, ‘Psyche!’

Say Anything is easily one of the most iconic emo bands of not just the mid-2000s, but also, in general. We were sad to say goodbye to them after they announced their plans to go on hiatus after their 2019 album, Oliver Appropriate was released. But, it’s time to rejoice because their hiatus is officially over and they released a brand new song, ‘Psyche!’ They came back and truly have a lot to say, considering the song is nearly six minutes. However, we promise you that not a second is wasted.

‘Psyche!’ is probably the apex of this concept, full of easter eggs, sincere attempts at stadium rock and an incredibly disturbing outro, hinting at the real-life situation this new music revolves around.

Some Of The Lyric References Explained

We’d normally pick our favorite lyrics, but with this song, we simply can’t. Instead, let’s focus the references because there are so many. So many, that these are only a few. You may recognize a few on the first listen and a few may take longer. We’ll break some of them down for you.

“Blink and you’ll miss,” — The iconic, Blink-182.

“To the crucifix with Twin F*cking Forks,” — Twin Forks is another band with Chris Carrabba, the vocalist of Dashboard Confessional.

“We are the flying rats that shattered glass for Bruce, and birthed the bat,” — A clever Batman reference.

“You’ll be Steve and I’ll be Bill, laughing to the bank,” — Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, two of the richest men in the world.

“By Riot Fest ’24, I’II be coughing up corks, If you supply the Malör(k)Riot Fest is the famous alt music festival that takes place in Chicago, hence, Malör. (…do they know something we don’t?!)

“…Whatever. Ask Jeeves.” — For our younger readers, Ask Jeeves was a search engine before Google existed.

Ready To See Them Live?

Fortunately, they’re going to play an abundance of festivals and shows. They’ll be playing at The Bowery Ballroom in the next upcoming days, Bamboozle in May, and at the Regent and When We Were Young Fest in October. For a full list of dates and tickets, click here.
