The first Monday in May is always a special occasion! That’s when some of our favorite celebrities hit the Big Apple for the annual Met Gala, which raises money for one of New York’s most iconic museums while giving fashion lovers around the world the chance to see some pretty amazing outfits. And each year, there’s a unique theme to inspire everyone’s looks, so it’s basically like a high-fashion costume party.
The 2023 theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty, inspired by designer Karl Lagerfeld. He’s best known for his time as the creative director of Chanel and the elegant aesthetics he leaned into, so this year’s Met Ball was full of sophistication and class. Here are some of our favorite looks from the biggest night in fashion!
Ava Max
When Ava sang about ‘Kings & Queens,’ she was talking about herself and Christian Siriano, because this outfit is something out of a regal dream! With over 6,000 pearls and crystals, this gown had our jaws dropping and was certainly one of the best looks of the night. And maybe of Met Gala history…

Billie Eilish
As we’ve learned over the years, Billie always serves on the Met Gala carpet, no matter what the theme is. Of course, this year was no different, thanks to her mysterious Simone Rocha look, which was stealing our hearts with layers of lace and sparkles. Her versatility on the Met steps is unmatched!

Doja Cat
Living up to her name, Doja took inspiration for her look from Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette! She wore a hooded Oscar de la Renta dress with cat ears and had a prosthetic cat nose to give the ultimate feline vibes. And as the icing on the cake, she gave meows as responses in her interviews.

Dua Lipa
As one of this year’s Gala co-chairs, we had high hopes for Dua’s look, and she totally delivered! She brought us a stunning throwback moment with a gown from Chanel‘s 1992 bridal collection, which looked like it was absolutely made for her. We also loved how the shape of her necklace matched the shape of the dress’ bodice.

Ice Spice
In addition to her fun personality, Ice Spice is known for her bold fashion, so it was really exciting to see her go a different route for her first Met Gala! She absolutely stunned us in a glam Balmain dress with clever cutouts, serving all sorts of elegance while still feeling young and fresh.

Jack Harlow
One of Chanel‘s signatures is a tweed jacket, and Jack Harlow gave that a unique spin with his Tommy Hilfiger suit. It captured the sophisticated vibes of Chanel while leaning into Tommy’s signature red and blue palette, and Jack’s effortlessly cool energy. Another amazing look in the history books!

Jenna added some chic edge to the classic Chanel vibe with a Thom Browne outfit that draws from the brand’s signature tweed fabrics and prim silhouettes. The ruffled skirt was so unique and eye-catching, and the proportions added a punk feel that we can’t get enough of.

Of course, the human Chanel had to be at a Met Gala all about one of Chanel‘s best-known designers! Jennie’s first-ever Met look was a recreation of a 90s Chanel runway look, and it looked so timeless and chic. The sleek, feminine hairstyle and black gloves were a gorgeous finishing touch.

Lil Nas X
More fabulous feline vibes for us to love! Lil Nas X never disappoints with his red carpet looks, and this might just be one of our favorites he’s ever done. He took inspiration from Karl’s cat, Choupette, sporting silver fangs, and long claws, while the lace on his face created a fluffy vibe with whiskers.

Rihanna
Come on, you really thought we’d be able to make this list without Rihanna? No way! Riri was one of the most anticipated stars of the night and showed up fashionably late in an awe-inspiring Valentino look, topped off with a coat covered in giant flowers. We think the eyelashes on her glasses were such a fun touch and a way to add a playful vibe to such an elegant outfit.

It’s been nearly a decade since Rita sang ‘I Will Never Let You Down,’ but she’s still keeping that promise!
