4 Songs To Get You Hyped For The Give Up & Transatlanticism 20th Anniversary Tour

2023 is truly the year for the Emo Revival. It’s also the 20th anniversary for a lot of iconic albums like Yellowcard’s, Ocean Avenue, which clearly meant an anniversary tour had to happen. Death Cab For Cutie’s Transatlanticism and The Postal Service’s Give It Up are also turning 20 this year, so they’re keeping up the energy and embarking on The Give Up & Transatlanticism 20th Anniversary Tour. These shows are primarily sold out, unfortunately. But you can check out the remaining tickets. If you’re able to go, then we definitely recommend it!

Whether Transatlanticism was the album that made you fall in love with Death Cab or your first introduction was Asphalt Meadows or the acoustic version, you’ll still be stoked. And whether you’ve been listening to The Postal Service for 20 years or 20 days, you won’t want to miss this tour.

It should go without saying that we’re so hyped to hear all the Transatlanticism and Give Up classics. So instead, we’re going to focus on some of the songs that aren’t ‘Such Great Heights’ or ‘Transatlanticism.’

Death Cab for Cutie – ‘We Looked Like Giants’

We’re a sucker for a good nostalgic love song and that’s exactly what this is. Whether or not you can personally relate to it, you’ll love it either way. The lyrics may sound soft, but sonically, it goes hard.

Lyrics We Love

“God bless the daylight,
The sugary smell of springtime
Remembering when you were mine.”

Death Cab for Cutie – ‘Tiny Vessels’

Doing a complete 180 here, but let’s talk about ‘Tiny Vessels.’ Emo songs about heartbreak are everywhere. We aren’t complaining btw. But to write a song from the other side of a breakup? That hurts, especially when they didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just simply a song you cry to from either perspective.

Lyrics We Love

And we’ll pretend that it meant something so much more
But it was vile and it was cheap
And you are beautiful, but you don’t mean a thing to me

‘This Place Is a Prison’

As soon as the song starts, we’re immediately drawn in by the drums. It may be the slowest song off of the album, but it’s just so beautiful and poetic. And being able to sing, “What does it take to get a drink in this place? / What does it take / how long must I wait?” in a crowd just feels right.

Lyrics We Love

“In my living room late last night,
It was almost too bright to see

And i know that it’s not a party if it happens every night.
Pretending there’s glamour and candelabra
when you’re drinking by candlelight.”

The Postal Service — ‘Clark Gable’

This song sounds like it could be in a movie soundtrack and it’s the point. The name of the song is ‘Clark Gable,’ one of the most iconic actors, known for his lead roles in romance movies. We can all relate to wanting a love so beautiful that it’s a cinematic masterpiece.

Lyrics We Love

“I kissed you in a style Clark Gable would have admired,
I thought it classic
I want so badly to believe
That there is truth, that love is real
And I want life in every word
To the extent that it’s absurd”
