Picture this. It’s a Sunday night, you have work tomorrow but you don’t really care. You’re at the BOYS LIKE GIRLS show in LA, in the middle of the pit with your friends, singing your heart out to your favorite songs, contemplating which one you’re going to crowdsurf to. Life is good. Then, BLG starts playing ‘THE OUTSIDE.’ A great song, a favorite of ours from their recent releases. And then, boom, Derek from State Champs comes onstage and starts singing. The Brian Logan Dales from The Summer Set. 3OH!3 joins in and The Ready Set pops up too. BOYS LIKE GIRLS sings ‘THE OUTSIDE’ together with all the artists. Next thing you know, Dan and Phil come out on stage and –

Okay, maybe that part didn’t happen. This may read like an out-of-pocket Tumblr post from 2014, but it is in fact a real thing that happened that we got to see. It didn’t end there. Shortly after that show, BOYS LIKE GIRLS teased ‘THE OUTSIDE (OUTSIDERS VERSION),’ an official studio version of this iconic performance. The track is now here and we’ve been listening to it non-stop.

This is OUR Roman Empire fr. This tour was nothing short of a dream lineup for us, so the fact that this lineup translated into features on a BLG song is everything.
I had written ‘THE OUTSIDE’ with Sean Foreman from 3OH!3 some years back and loved the idea of making a version with them on it. After booking the tour and becoming friends with Derek [DiScanio] from State Champs, we also talked about doing a feature. So when Brian and I from The Summer Set started texting and Jordan from The Ready Set jumped on a couple shows, we knew what we had to do.

The fact that ‘THE OUTSIDE (OUTSIDERS VERSION)’ has been in the works for so long and finally saw the light of day makes us so happy. This truly is a track for all of the fans out there who consider themselves “outsiders” and it’s so special to hear bands we’ve loved for so many years coming together on a song like this. The track is anthemic, catchy, and makes you want to scream along at the top of your lungs. (We may or may not have lost our voices after doing just that live, but that’s neither here nor there) All the vocals and sounds of each artist on this track blend perfectly. We’ve been thrown all the way back to our teen years with this track and we’re so thankful that BOYS LIKE GIRLS brought it to life.
