We at The Honey POP are Lovejoy stans first, people second. Earlier this year, they released one of our favorite EPs, Wake Up & It’s Over, which we’ve had on repeat. And now Lovejoy’s new song, ‘Normal People Things’ will be on repeat too. Fans said that they soundchecked it at the last date of Wake Up & It’s Over Tour, which was in Norwich. They also teased the song on TikTok.
Ngl, we were a little confused when we saw the title because “normal” and “Lovejoy” don’t belong in the same sentence unless “isn’t” is between the two. /lh. But after listening to the song, it made sense. The lyrics are peak Lovejoy.
“To meet someone like you,
with eyes as dead as mine.”
Most bands or artists say something along the lines of “her eyes lit up the night.” Nope. Not LJ. Eyes? Dead. But honestly, same.
“You rubbed the makeup off my neck that I was using
to hide the stubble rash I gave myself whilst shaving.
Yes, it’s probably a razor thing,
but honestly, it’s harmless and I refuse to let the sensitive skin win.”
Not wanting to change the type of razor you use to avoid getting a rash is a weird hill to die on (/lh), but go for it?
The Music Video
There’s a lot going on lyrically, but let’s talk about the music video. It’s insane, but we love it. The deadpan stares. The cowboy hats? The creepy mannequins that will inevitably haunt our dreams?! And yet, we can’t stop watching it.
