Hi David! Welcome to The Honey POP! Super excited to have you here for a chat. For our first question, we’d love to give you the floor for you to introduce yourself and your sound!
Hey Honey POP crew, thanks for the sweet intro! I have 3 first names, but you can just call me DMF if you’d like. My music is all over the place, but it usually is pop-leaning alternative rock with a sprinkle of everything that’s ever made my heart skip a beat. I’ve been singing my heart out (and my ass off) online over the last decade. You’ve maybe seen me belting some high notes on TikTok in some energetic short covers, but as fun as that is, my heart is really about writing original music and staying true to my own artistry. I recently stopped that rat race of chasing covers & virality and spent the last year ONLY recording the best songs I’ve ever written for my debut solo album…. And I’m excited to say that TWENTY-FIVE SONGS are all at the finish line!
Let’s talk about your new single, ‘Talk To Myself.’ We love it! It’s an incredible song and explores a topic that’s relatable for so many people in the world, including us. What was the songwriting process like for this track, and was there a particular moment in your life that sparked the inspiration to create it?
Thanks for the love on ‘Talk To Myself!’ It’s my musical pep talk, born from those moments when I wished I could whisper encouragement to a younger me. Ever wanted to tell your past self that everything will be alright? That’s the heartbeat of this track. It’s about embracing every up and down and realizing that every twist and turn, however tough, adds to our story. Keep dreaming, keep fighting, and know it’s all part of the journey.
We adore the message of self-belief and hope intertwined in ‘Talk To Myself’ as well as the raw, confessional nature of the lyrics. Are there certain lyrics that you’re especially proud of?

Not only do you have a true knack for creating original songs like ‘F*** Me Over’ and ‘Talk To Myself’ that have quickly become favorites, but you are also sensational at covering songs, too! We’ve binged a lot of them, and your energy is contagious. Out of all of your covers, which would you say has been your favorite to record?
Covers have been my gateway to building such a supportive fanbase. It’s like offering a familiar tune but with a DMF twist that intros a n00b to who I am as an artist. I’ve done some cool ones, but if I had to pick favorites:
1) My audacious take on ‘Wrecking Ball’ – let’s just say I got in touch with my inner Miley (Spoiler: I got very naked on a workout ball/rope combo in the backyard) within 24 hours of Miley’s release. My version went viral worldwide and was a career game-changer for me.
2) My tribute to the legendary Chester Bennington. He’s been a monumental inspiration in my journey. I crafted a medley blending a dozen Linkin Park songs, pouring my heart and reverence into it. Every note was a salute to his legacy.
Your voice and sound are incredibly nostalgic for those who have grown up and thrived on music in your genre for years, and we just need to know who inspires you. Who are your top three artists that you look up to the most?
Wow, thanks for the compliment! It’s all about channeling my authentic self. Musically, think of me as a cocktail with splashes of Panic! At The Disco, Demi Lovato, Jimmy Eat World, and a hint of Radiohead. But vocally? That’s where Josh Ramsay, Steve Perry, with a little Celine Dion mixed in there. They’ve truly shaped the way I approach training my voice to be the best it can be… all so I can help serve the message of the song.
You’ve taken an untraditional approach for your Private Party Tour, such as renting private venues instead of playing traditional ones, Pizza Hut for VIP attendees, and more, and we think that’s so cool! Can you tell us a little more about the thought process behind that and what people can expect at your shows?
Yeah, the touring industry is a tough scene right now. It’s becoming a real challenge for artists to land tours. The headliners might get their due (though it’s often reduced), but the support acts? They’re scraping by. Promoter and venue fees are staggering, and the topic of “merch cuts” gets my blood boiling. Having shifted my focus solely to original music, I had this burning desire to tour. But after knocking on countless doors and facing disappointing offers, an out-of-the-box idea struck me: What if I bypassed the usual club scene and instead rented unique venues across the country? There’s a plethora of cool spots out there that put regular clubs to shame. Taking a leap of faith, I invested in this vision and took on the role of an “Event Planner.”
For food? VIP attendees are in for a treat with complimentary Pizza Hut, Insomnia Cookies, and Nekter Juice Smoothies. Drinks-wise, I’ve curated custom cocktails and actually can profit off the bar sales! Add to that tattoo artists, Hot Dogs (don’t ask), and more. Believe me, when I say my VIP package is unparalleled and touring like this is a GAME-CHANGER. It truly could disrupt the touring industry if artists start paving their own way. It’s an insane amount of work, but it brings the power back to the artist. It’s an intimate tour where I’m essentially your host, ensuring everyone has an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere at these shows? Pure, undiluted love.
You said that you’d received over 900 submissions for openers on your tour. That’s so many! We can imagine it was a hard choice to make. How did you make the final decision for your opening acts?
It’s a combo of undiscovered talent that I believe have the THING and then friends of mine who have some exciting stuff going online but didn’t have shows on the books. The lineup is pretty wild. For some of these shows, the bill is just like you’re “scrolling through your FYP.”
Speaking of the tour, we saw your TikTok about David’s Franks, and we just have to ask: what’s your perfect hotdog?

Word on the street is that we can expect your debut album to come out in 2024, and with how fast this year is going, we’ll be there in no time! How does it feel to be on your way to releasing your first full album?
I’ve certainly released a ton of music in bands, but now that I’m a solo artist, it’s incredibly exciting to put out an album under my name. I have 25 songs almost done, and I’m proud of them all. It’ll probably be a double album, and I’ve got some ideas for a unique release strategy that no one will ever have done before. Stay tuned! And be patient 🙂

Thanks again! Well, my Private Party Tour idea would work globally. I can literally fly anywhere in the world and throw my own party and perform. So make sure you’ve requested me in your city.
