We love it when one of our favorite girl group members gets the chance to blossom on her own, and that’s especially true for SOOJIN! She’s finally back and ready to shine with her debut AGASSY EP, which delivers everything we could’ve wanted from her comeback and more. It’s a beautiful reintroduction for her longtime fans and a stellar introduction for the new fans she’s encountering, bringing us crisp vocals and that it factor that made us adore her in the first place.
The EP’s title track, ‘AGASSY,’ describes a “beautiful young lady” who values her independence. It’s elegant and warm, but also cool and refreshing, which is a duality we can’t get enough of. And one of the main things that popped into our heads was just how much we missed SOOJIN’s vocals! They really shine on tracks like ‘AGASSY’ and the mellow ‘SUNSET.’ Like a ‘bloodredrose,’ her voice is powerful yet delicate at the same time, exuding a velvety softness while also packing a punch as a thorn would.
In the past phase of her idol career, we got to see SOOJIN take on a lot of bold concepts, and we love that she’s now exploring a more refined, graceful side of her artistry. Our first thought when we pressed play and heard ‘Flowering’ was that it sounds like it should be in a designer perfume commercial – it has that sophistication and freshness!
But even with the more elegant side of the mini-album, there’s still plenty of cheerful energy that will make you smile. The first line of ‘Flowering’ is “hello, my sunshine,” which we think is such a cute introduction for her comeback. The groovy ‘Sunflower’ is destined to go viral on TikTok and appear on all those Aesthetic K-Pop Playlist compilations on YouTube. The beat of ‘TyTy’ even gives us catchy Pinkpantheress vibes, so don’t be surprised if that winds up being one of the EP’s biggest hits!
We were already stoked to know SOOJIN would be making her solo debut, but we’re even more excited to see what this chapter has in store for her now that we’ve heard AGASSY. It’s a strong introduction to what we hope is a fruitful new era for her!
