It’s the change of tides that we can feel in the atmosphere. The weather (at least in the northern hemisphere) has become colder, twinkling lights have appeared in windows, decor is more green and red, and music has become more festive. We all know it’s the Christmas atmosphere that is falling around us. We’re so ready to get our festivities on! We’re equally excited to take a bite of this holiday season with Sabrina Carpenter’s holiday EP, fruitcake.

“Lookin’ At You Got Me Thinkin’ Christmas”
Sabrina Carpenter opens fruitcake with a Christmas remix of her hit song ‘Nonsense.‘ The holiday edition, ‘A Nonsense Christmas,’ is what anyone would undoubtedly expect from Sabrina. ‘Nonsense’ is a song that is already about your physical attraction towards someone, and Sabrina doesn’t hold back from it. The pop singer has made the song a fan favorite during her emails I can’t send Tour and now on the Eras Tour with the adlib at the end of the song.
Keeping true to the original message of ‘Nonsense,’ ‘A Nonsense Christmas‘ is no different with the adlib at the end, only this time with a bit of tinsel in the right areas. With that in mind, ‘A Nonsense Christmas’ is a Christmas twist that keeps the cheerful demeanor of female sexuality towards the person they are attracted to. Now, play this song to your crush so they get the hint. Or send them a lyric from this song. In particular, this one is the best way to get your Christmas honey (and kisses): “Think I only want you under my mistletoe.”
‘Buy Me Presents’
The second song on the fruitcake EP is a jingley tale of wanting a winter love to keep you warm. As Sabrina Carpenter would say, “keep my stocking filled.” ‘Buy me presents‘ is less about the material objects you receive at the holidays than the sentiment behind the gifts. This song is about hope – almost desperation to be considered unique enough to be remembered by someone during the holiday season.
“F*ck the jet, send the sleigh. It’s a packed holiday, and I got options, babe.”
Throughout the song, Sabrina makes it evident that she wants to be the priority. The shining star on the top of a Christmas tree to someone who won’t bring a gift. Again, it’s not a materialistic song. It’s about the meaning behind picking out a gift for someone. Every bit of thought and detail one can conjure up when picking out the right gift for someone has meaning. ‘Buy me presents’ is about moving on to the next. Don’t waste your holiday or time on someone who puts you as a second thought!
‘Santa Doesn’t Know You Like I Do’
Naughty or nice? Sabrina Carpenter will think about you twice. ‘Santa doesn’t know you like I do‘ is a pining wish list where only one thing is written down: the person you want. This is an interesting song as instead of Santa being the one to bear gifts, Sabrina wants to do it. Throughout this holiday song, she attempts to prove that she knows this individual incredibly well. Even better than the big man in the red suit who watches you year-round.
‘Santa doesn’t know you like I do’ is a cat-and-mouse chase. Santa can’t bring joy on Christmas; however, she can if you only wake up and see what’s in front of you. This track, coming after ‘buy me presents,’ is contradictory and reflects the deep inner feelings that coincide with the lack of a winter romance.
Santa doesn’t know you like I do. I know all of your favorite songs. Pick up each time you call. So, why can’t I be the one to give you everything you want?”

‘Cindy Lou Who’
Who doesn’t love a Grinch reference? It wouldn’t be a Christmas season without a bit of a cultural namesake being brought into a Sabrina Carpenter song. Instead of this song embodying the attitude of the Grinch himself, we find ourselves in the true Christmas blues. With this in mind, it wouldn’t be a Sabrina Carpenter or holiday EP without a sad song. ‘Cindy lou who‘ is Sabrina’s approach to a Christmas heartbreak melody. What is it with Christmas and having sad, heartbroken songs woven into the experience?
Sabrina expresses the detached feeling of watching the one you wanted to enjoy the holidays with someone else. This achy feeling has not been shaken despite how much time has passed. To emphasize, as a listener, you can hear the pain in Sabrina’s soft vocals mixed with a slight tinge of choking jealousy.
The snow’s gonna fall and tree’s gonna glisten. And, I’m gonna puke at the thought of you kissin’. The boy who I love is now in love with you, Cindy Lou Who.”

‘Is It New Years Yet?’
The snarky Sabrina attitude we hear in ‘Vicious’ returns in ‘is it new years yet?‘ This tune is a daydreamy vibe, pushing the lyrics and the funky beat forward to match the change she wants to see in her life. ‘Is it new years yet?’ is a fresh approach to pulling the listener into her world.
Santa, Santa, why do you hate me? I’m a gift; look how God made me.”
Sabrina Carpenter – ‘is it new years yet?’
It’s the perfect play when you’re bored and tired of the repetition of the Christmas activities. Sabrina continuously brings in hilarious lyricism about impatience for a new year, a new (love) life that will keep you endlessly entertained.
‘White Xmas’
We sincerely enjoyed Sabrina’s version of a holiday classic and favorite. Her gorgeous soprano voice carries ‘White xmas‘ well in this jazzy twist. The stacking of her vocals mimicking a capella group in the background mixed with the cello is gorgeous. You will feel warmed up and in the holiday spirit as you listen to this song.
It’s A Holly Jolly Christmas With Fruitcake
Fruitcake is a complete project that certainly represents Sabrina. It’s a hot, brave, bold holiday release sprinkled with nutmeg. It would be best if you had fruitcake playing as you decorate your house, decorate cookies with your friends, or when you tell your holiday crush your feelings. Why not all of the above? Sabrina would obviously want you to!
Now, in the spirit of the season of giving, we can’t wait for you to give us your thoughts on this suave EP. Come find us on our socials to tell us how you plan to listen to fruitcake! Give us a shout on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram to dig into this yummy holiday treat.
