5 Taylor Acorn Songs We’re Obsessed With

Taylor Acorn has quickly launched her way to the top of our playlists. We’ve had the Certified Depressant EP on loop since its release (as it should be,) and we just can’t get enough.

In honor of Taylor’s new song ‘Basement,’ we thought we’d share some tracks of hers that are constantly stuck in our heads (in a good way) in the hopes that you join the Taylor Acorn hype train. Be sure to stream ‘Basement’ and Certified Depressant, you won’t be disappointed. We kept our list at 5 songs because if we went any longer, we’d just share her entire discography, and we’d all be here for ages! Definitely go check out all of her music after we’ve highlighted our faves.

‘Basement’

Taylor mastered the art of pulling emotions out of our heads and putting them to music. ‘Basement’ is about the feeling of hitting rock bottom and thinking things can’t get any worse, and then surprise, they do. We’ve all been there. When you think there’s no way to claw your way out of that hole, and all you want is to get back up again. Taylor captured the raw struggle of those emotions with ‘Basement’ in such a powerful, anthemic way, and we will definitely have this song on repeat.

‘Psycho’

‘Pyscho’ is for all of you who have been called “one of the crazy ones” after being pushed too far by that not-so-special someone. “I’m not a villain, but you made me one” and “Boys like you all love to say that chicks like me are just insane/but boys like you give men a sh*tty name/so let’s play a game” really encapsulate this song perfectly, and we’re all for the female rage being showcased here. We’re living for the shift of the idea of the “crazy ex-girlfriend” to “well, what happened that pushed them that far?” and we think this song is a great example of that. Also, the fact that it gives us major 2000s-pop-punk-with-a-modern-edge vibes is definitely a bonus.

‘Shapeshifting’

‘Shapeshifting’ was actually one of the first Taylor Acorn tracks that introduced us to her solo work. It’s another perfect example of her mastery of emotional lyricism, and we’ve found a lot of comfort in this track. It definitely leans on the heavier side in terms of the lyrics, and it’s raw and vulnerable at its core. Taylor isn’t shying away from vulnerability in her music, and that’s what makes it so relatable and great to listen to. We appreciate the raw honesty and emotion, and we find ourselves gravitating towards this song a lot when we’re looking to express those emotions ourselves.

‘Famous Last Words’

This is one of our favorite tracks off of Taylor’s new EP. Taylor’s pop-punk influences really shine on this track, and we can’t stop from headbanging and finger-pointing along whenever we listen. Especially during the chorus, it just hits something in us when we get to finger point and scream along to “love f*cking hurts, and you can’t reverse famous last words.” The whole narrative of this song will really get you if you’re a 20-something who’s not so lucky in love. “There’s nothing you can say she’s gotta learn it the hard way.” Is this [redacted] play about us?? It might be.

‘Certified Depressant’

The title track of the EP is definitely a major favorite of ours, and we’re kinda suspecting it’ll be pretty high up on our end-of-the-year streaming roundups. And honestly, as it should be. ‘Certified Depressant’ is catchy as hell, and we have to bust out the headbanging and finger-pointing at the chorus every time. We so badly want to sing this back to Taylor live, and since she’s heading out on tour next spring, we’re looking forward to getting that chance! If you’re interested in the same, you can grab tickets for that here.
