In 2023, Weeekly came back into our lives with ‘Good Day‘ and later their mini-album ColoRise, and we’ve been looping it ever since. And that was only the beginning of this new Weeekly era because they’re definitely here to stay!
After releasing a special Christmas single in December, the year started on a high for the girls as they held their first-ever fan meeting at the beginning of January. Fan meetings always give us some of our favorite content with performances, games, and so much more. In the case of Weeekly’s fan meeting, one of their surprises was the performance of their unreleased new song, ‘Stranger.’ And after a few weeks, it’s finally here for us all to listen to without anyone stopping us!
‘Stranger’ starts soft with nothing but their sweet voices and a gentle guitar, but it progressively builds up into a hopeful, emotional, nostalgic, yet upbeat song. It’s a beautiful pop ballad that feels satisfying and addictive to listen to. Weeekly‘s voices fit the song beautifully, and it truly leaves them the space to show the unique tone of their voices. These girls have incredible voices, and everyone should know about it.
And we cannot talk about ‘Stranger’ without mentioning the lyrics. The lyrics are pretty emotional and vulnerable – and relatable. They sing about longing for someone they lost and miss and being forced to face themselves, yet feeling lost without that person to the point they don’t know themselves anymore. It’s all about becoming a stranger to yourself. Accompanied by a beautiful animation for the music video, ‘Stranger’ could only leave a long-lasting mark in our hearts.
One thing about ‘Stranger’ is that the melodies in the chorus will make you want to sing along at the top of your lungs. Thankfully, we don’t have to butcher the Korean language too much because Weeekly released the English version of the track. It’s their first English track, yet they sound just as good, and it gives us another reason to listen to this song endlessly.
With such a strong start to the year, one can only assume Weekly is back for good and will be giving us some of the best music of 2024! ‘Stranger’ is definitely a fantastic start to that!
