It’s relatable, or at least honest enough that it feels relatable.
Who here hasn’t been through a relationship where you were more invested than the other person? If you haven’t, we’re willing to bet you love songs about it anyway. Maybe you were the emotionally unavailable party, and you can listen to this song from your ex’s point of view. It doesn’t even have to be a romantic relationship either. If you’ve ever felt like someone else thought you were too much, this song is for you. She doesn’t shy away from telling this person exactly how she feels about their relationship. If you’ve ever wanted to tell someone to their face that they’re “scared of anything real” or accuse them of being “empty-minded,” you can live out your fantasies through ‘Too Much.’

If you relate to the lyrics, make sure you’re prepared for the music video. It’s the perfect representation of the situation girl in red is in. She performs for a partner who reacts with no shortage of eye rolls and sighs. There’s a knife in her chest and her partner could not care less. And to twist the knife, it’s all a fantasy that plays in her head as she watches TV with her partner. Get out of that relationship, girl in red!
She’s an icon- why wouldn’t you give her a listen?
girl in red is already an icon, specifically in the queer community. We are not saying it would be homophobic not to give her a chance. But if that will guilt you into listening, we’re open to it. If you were anywhere on the internet in 2019, or at all since then, you’ve heard ‘we fell in love in october,’ plus the revival every October, and last year’s sequel ‘October Passed Me By.’ If you’re not already a fan of girl in red, there’s a good chance those are the only songs you’ve heard by her. And that’s okay, we don’t judge here! But now’s the chance to do yourself a favor and dive into the rest of her music.
