Mae Stephens Shines In First London Headline Show

This week saw London treated to Mae Stephens‘ first ever headline gig, and what a treat it was! Colours, Hoxton was packed by the time Mae graced the stage on Tuesday February 27th, for a show filled with anecdotes about her life, cute little dances and insane vocals.

The 20-year-old rising pop-star showcased her talent with hits such as ‘Jungle’ and ‘Mr. Right.’ Throughout, Mae Stephens gave 100% to every single song, including a cover, which she shared she had never done before – not just the cover of ‘Lose Control’ by Teddy Swims, but any cover live. When performing ‘Stranger,’ she managed to get a good amount of the room crying, including us. This performance followed a heartfelt, very personal, story about her struggles growing up. She of course, topped off the show with her viral song; ‘If We Ever Broke Up.’ What better way to wrap up?

Fans filled the room and sang every lyric, and notably a lot of people caught our eye as they danced like no-one was watching, and we give them such high praise for that. People were dressed the part too, of course. Energy is key to a phenomenal crowd, and we have visited this venue and experienced the Colours crowds many times over the years. The energy and the moves from the crowd pulled in by Mae Stephens, was unmatched!

Throughout the show, Mae Stephens told us little stories for each song. One being about how when she was at a festival, her mic-pack had fallen off and she had to perform completely clueless as to what was going on. We don’t know about you, but that to us, takes a lot of guts!

The whole show was like an insight into her life. From on-stage disasters, to failed friendships and childhood insecurities, it felt very vulnerable and very personal, and we were so grateful to have been there. Watching Mae grow, and hearing her talk about how far she’s come within herself, was so inspiring. It’s a really important message to be heard, especially by young girls.
