Still Learning is the largest release by the Brighton Babe comprised of both new songs, such as her latest single ‘I’m A Problem,’ and some of her most loved pre-releases, such as ‘Pretty Boys,’ ‘X&Y,’ and ‘Why Can’t I Have Two? (2468).’ The 13-track mixtape is a bold, colorful, unapologetic record that confronts life affairs faced by Gen Z as they embark on their journeys of young adulthood. Full of bops, bangers, and relatable messages, we’ve made note of five lessons we’ve learned from Caity Baser’s Still Learning as fellow Gen Z who are also trying to navigate this chaotic life.

You should embrace who you are, even if that’s a problem for others

Serving as her latest single from Still Learning, ‘I’m A Problem’ is a self-celebratory song for the loud and unapologetic people who are often told to tone it down. The mixtape opener is a bass-heavy banger that confronts anyone who judges those who don’t fit into the mold. In confrontational lyrics, Caity sings: “You say I’m trouble, well I say that I’m fun / You’re all stuck up and clever, and I’d rather be dumb / Oh, God-forbidden woman knows how to get it done.” Take a leaf out of Miss Baser’s book: be yourself, even if that’s a problem to others!

Sometimes you can’t control things, but that’s okay! It adds to your life story

‘The Plot’ is a fast-paced bop with a clapping poppy beat that helps put a positive perspective on life when things don’t go the way they’re supposed to. Consoling listeners, Caity sings: “Baby, you don’t have to worry / It’s all for the story / I say do it for the plot / Because one day this will all be funny,” and tbh, we need to commit this to memory for those days we’re on board the struggle bus.

Love isn’t always perfect and can evoke an array of emotions

Drawing inspiration from Oscar-winning movie of the same name, ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ is an emotional turmoil that addresses the struggles of being in a relationship and how that person may not be what you made them out to be in your mind. Love is made out to be something perfect and wonderful, and while it can be, it doesn’t come without its downsides, too, and Caity details this in this brutally honest in this melodramatic track.

It’s important not to dwell too much on the things that don’t work out

Life can really throw you off the track sometimes, and it can be very easy to let it consume you, but in this 90s movie soundtrack-esque song, Caity shares her way of coping by simply accepting the situation. “Oh, it’s all shits and giggles / rhymes and riddles / Don’t know how it goes / I’m stuck in the middle of a tiddle / It’s out of my control / Everything’s f*cked, but it’s okay / sometimes you just have to say oh well,” Caity sings as she makes peace with anything out of her hands, and it’s honestly the outlook we need to adapt ourselves.

You don’t need anyone but yourself (and you are pretty amazing)

‘Choose Me’ is a self love song that we can’t get enough of. It reminds us that you don’t need anyone other than yourself, and that you are your ultimate lover. In a piano driven number, Caity sings: “I’m not lookin’ for love / What you gonna give me that I don’t already got? / Till you outdo me, I choose me,” and honestly that’s a mood. We need to start putting ourselves more as a priority and fall in love with ourselves a little, and it seems like Caity has managed to ace that!

Still Learning is the ultimate guide for Gen Z to support them on their journey through early adulthood with bops, bangers, and lived advice by Caity herself. We’ve had this album on repeat and with Caity hinting at her debut album in the foreseeable future, we know Still Learning is the perfect stepping stone and a great introduction to new listeners.
