As they put it, the goal of the series is to “be a welcome mix of lived experiences, humor, humanity, acknowledging pop culture moments, and tackling heavy topics that deserve our time and attention, too.” Who doesn’t love that? In this crazy world we live in, it feels refreshing to sit back and watch something that just feels like a chat with friends.

Monkey Man
We love Dev Patel, right? Right! So it’s no surprise we’d be talking about his directorial debut here, which brings us to Monkey Man. And this one is for our action and thriller fans, honey! We have vengeance, murders, and so many awesome fight scenes. And Dev himself is the protagonist named Kid.
Kid currently makes a living by wearing a gorilla mask and getting beaten up by other fighters in an underground fight club every night and being paid for it. That is, until the day he finds a way into the city’s elite neighborhood and that’s when the action starts. Kid’s anger and trauma find their way to the surface and he starts a quest for vengeance on the people who were not only responsible for the death of his mother but also continue to victimize the poor and powerless. Monkey Man hits theaters on April 5.

STEVE! (martin)
Another Apple TV+ original you absolutely have to check out ASAP is STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces. As the name suggests, the doc has as its central character actor Steve Martin, who we all know and love from movies like Father of the Bride and Cheaper by the Dozen and, more recently, the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.
But in STEVE! (martin), we get to look beyond the iconic characters and see Steve Martin the person instead of Steve Martin the famous actor. As the name suggests, the doc is split into two parts. “Then” focuses on Steve’s younger years, his early struggles, and the way he revolutionized stand-up before walking away at 35. And “Now” dives more into present-day Martin as he recounts the ways in which happiness made it into his professional and personal life.

Challengers
Closing today’s list, we have Challengers, set to release in theaters on April 26. It’s an MGM Studios movie about tennis starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor. Sounds pretty awesome, don’t you think?
This time, Zendaya steps into the shoes of Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach who’s not scared of a challenge. But if Tashi’s career is doing fine, the same cannot be said about her husband, Art, who’s been on a losing streak. Of course she is determined to help turn that around, but that’s when things get interesting. Enter Patrick, Tashi’s ex-boyfriend and Art’s former best friend, who brings the couple face to face with their past during a challenger event where the two men play against each other. We can’t wait to see how this story goes when the movie comes out.
