We’ve Got The Buzz On Zolita’s ‘Small Town Scandal’

Here at THP, Zolita has quickly become one of our favorite pop stars so we were buzzing upon hearing her newest release! Her latest single enters a new sub-genre that, in true Zolita fashion, explores sapphic love. So grab your cowboy hats and boots, and get ready to fall in love with ‘Small Town Scandal.’

One thing about Zolita? She’ll create a perfect sapphic anthem, no matter the genre. With ‘Small Town Scandal’ she explores country-pop and once again opens the conversation of being queer within her music. Growing up on bluegrass music, this song is also a tribute to her roots and a way for her to make room for sapphics in a genre they’ve been so often excluded from.

When talking about the track, Zolita said this.

About a year ago, I started going queer line dancing at a place called Stud Country. It has been unbelievably healing to reclaim a part of American culture that queer people have historically been excluded from – and it inspired me to write my new song ‘Small Town Scandal.’ The lyrics in this song are simultaneously sexy and funny and unabashedly gay. I grew up a horse girl obsessed with country music – so I am unbelievably excited to finally release a song that is infused with so many of my favorite 2000’s country references.
