September feels like so long from now, doesn’t it? We’re imagining it’s September 27th and we’re listening to Nina Nesbitt’s Mountain Music in a cabin under the stars. ‘Mansion’ just enforces that this will be the only way to listen to the new album. Nina said she was going back to her folk roots for this one, but we didn’t know that would mean ‘Mansion’ would start with the sounds of running water and birds chirping. Close your eyes, and you might as well already be outside in the crisp fall weather, ready to listen. Flannel optional.
‘Mansion’
Speaking of ‘Mansion,’ we need Nina to know that she’s changing lives with this one. Next time you need a confidence boost, Nina has got you. And she’s right, you are not a “bed in a box room,” a “whisper in a hallway,” etcetera, etcetera. You are a mansion! And so is Nina!
Even looking past the lyrics, the sound of the song is so powerful. We have not yet found a song that dramatically builds up to the end that we haven’t loved, and ‘Mansion’ is far from the exception. It’s like the song is building up with our confidence. If the rest of Mountain Music is anything like ‘Mansion,’ we will never complain again.
‘On The Run’
We can feel our souls being taken over by ‘Mansion,’ but that doesn’t mean we’re at all over the last two songs Nina released. In fact, we’re still reeling over the surprise drop of ‘On The Run.’ We’re so glad that Nina is talking about that feeling when your everyday life just feels a little monotonous and you long for something more. She writes about it in such an incredible way that even if you’re not feeling like that, you will for four minutes and sixteen seconds. She gets it, sometimes you just gotta go ‘On The Run!’ Or at least fantasize about it.
‘Pages’
Oh, how we love this song. It’s a different take on the feeling behind ‘On The Run.’ As much as we sometimes like to ignore this fact, sometimes when you’re feeling down, the solution is not to run away. Sometimes you simply have to feel it and reflect on everything. That’s what Nina is doing in ‘Pages.’ We can’t wait to see how else Nina will explore different emotions in Mountain Music. For now, this is the song that we’ll be playing on car rides, and it will in fact “know [us] better than [our] ghosts.”
September 27th, please come faster! In the meantime, let’s discuss. Which song off Mountain Music is your favorite so far? Which song on the track list are you claiming? Let us know in the comments or at @thehoneypop on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.
