The year 2020 was a crazy time for everyone. But for die-hard Charli XCX stans like ourselves, it did come with the gift of an iconic work of art from the Queen herself, and that is the masterpiece how i’m feeling now. 37 minutes and five seconds of pure perfection, the album is one that has never left our constant rotation. And what better way to gush about an album as magnificent as this one than to list some of our favorite songs? So let’s not waste any more time, and drive right in!
‘pink diamond’
If we didn’t start off by talking about the title track, what even is the point? ‘pink diamond’ showcases all of our favorite Charli skills. Insanely catchy and hypnotizing beats, speaking about how hot she is, and that almost rap-like skill Charli perfectly executes on some of her tracks. The outro builds and builds to sheer perfection, and sets you up perfectly for the rest of the album.
‘forever’
We relate so hard to a track about letting someone go for both of your greater good, no matter how much it might suck in the moment. The sentiment of “I will always love you, I love you forever. Even when we’re not together” that’s repeated throughout the track just hits home so hard. This one we could tie to so many people, and we love that Charli just truly gets us on this track.
‘party 4 u’
If you asked us what the background music in our heads is, we would tell you it’s the opening synths to ‘party 4 u.’ If there’s one thing we can say with absolute certainty, it’s that we would never miss a Charli XCX party! Especially if it was for us!
‘enemy’
The time and true statement of “Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer” gets a whole new life in ‘enemy.’ But the concept of intentionally falling in love with someone who might actually be your ‘enemy’ is one that makes our hearts feel for Charli. Sometimes we try our best to trust someone who we didn’t get the best read from at first. Sometimes, it’s the best thing we’ve ever done and sometimes you realize they are in fact, your ‘enemy.’
‘anthems’
This is one that we keep in our “main character” playlist because that is the exact energy this song carries for us. “I want anthems. Late night, my friends, New York. I sleep, wanna wake up brand new. I sleep, wanna wake up with you.” Like yes queen!! We also want to wake up feeling brand new!!
