We have quite the treat for you! On top of breaking down why we love this debut vaultboy album, everything and nothing, we also got to catch up with him to discuss the album. We talked all about what the record means to vaultboy and what he’s hoping fans walk away from this album feeling.

Releasing your debut album is a big deal! What can you tell us about those emotions that lead up to a release like this?
It really is! It was a very volatile experience for me emotionally. All in all, putting a project you’ve spent years on out into the world is an amazing thing. I’m very proud.
everything and nothing has twelve tracks! When you look through that tracklist, is there a song that has taken on a new life for you during the process of releasing the record?
I think ‘everything is falling apart again’ was a good case of that. It was such a fun song to make despite how dark it is. It’s very cinematic and was fun to try and capture the emotion of the song.
Out of the twelve tracks on the record, is there one in particular that you immediately could imagine visuals for?
‘this is heaven, this is hell’ for sure. It’s a very visual song lyrically. My creative direction really nailed it with the lyric video for it. It’s one of my favorite album tracks.
(Note: Just to add onto this last question, after we listened to the entire record, ‘this is heaven, this is hell’ is also the song we could immediately visualize. vaultboy is incredible at painting pictures with his words!)
What message are you hoping comes across when fans dive into the record?
That the dark times, though difficult, can highlight how special the good times are. The mixture of both is what makes life meaningful.
And lastly, what does everything and nothing mean to you?
It’s my life. A look into my world. It’s the album I wish I could hear for the first time. When I listen back to the songs, it reminds me that I’m really doing my best. That I should be proud. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to create it.
