Jagwar Twin is in the middle of playing an arena tour as an opening act! Now we’ll just imply that if he skipped headlining small venues and academies and went straight to arenas himself, we wouldn’t be mad about it. Of course, we had to be there to check out Jagwar Twin’s set!
The way Jagwar Twin filled the stage was incredible. He was interactive with the crowd, made sure to visit each side and hype everyone up, and when he was busy singing or dancing, Luke Villegas (guitarist) spent time hyping the crowd too. Despite being a support act, people knew his songs, especially ’Happy Face’ and ‘Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa).’ These songs have both had their viral moments. To see them performed live, to hear people sing along and dance, was something else. He put on an intense show from start to finish and we wish he never had to finish.
Opening with ‘The Circle,’ sitting cross-legged on the floor with an incense immediately pulls you in. It makes you focus and ultimately makes the whole room seem much smaller than it was, despite the few thousand people who showed up. Starting with a stripped-back, intimate song, allowed the crowd to feel like they knew Jagwar Twin. Soon after, he dived right into ‘Down To You’ and set the place alight! He really knows how to bring the stage to life. The lighting, the branding, the fashion, it all just showcased him to perfection, every little thing was on point.
This was our first time seeing him live in the UK. We had such high hopes but he managed to completely surpass them. And he did so, effortlessly. He was everything you would want from Jagwar Twin, from an opener, from an independent artist doing his first large live shows and MORE. The setlist was perfection, he chose a flawless mix of his upbeat and slowed-down songs. They all flowed into one another so smoothly too. The transitions were incredible, the lighting matched the artwork to the songs, and the doodles on the screens were also imagery he’s been using a lot. Everything just tied together so well. Let’s go back in time. We want it to never end, if you see us sneaking into more shows… mind your business and no you didn’t.

Covering all his new releases, decoding his art and his lyrics, deep diving into all his imagery, and taking part in all the little games he had websites for in the run-up to his releases. We are beyond proud of him. This has shown us that he is made for arenas. And whilst we may want to gatekeep him… we won’t… too much. Keep your eyes on him, he will only get bigger and better as time goes on. But there’s still time now to catch him whilst he’s growing!
