The moment is finally here! We have spent the last twenty-four hours completely entranced by what we have to consider one of the greatest albums of the last several years. The Secret of Us. Gracie Abrams, by now, is a proven complete and total popstar, it’s no secret, but the level to which Gracie’s understanding of pop music is on display here has blown us away. Front to back, we found ourselves getting lost in this record, and we knew we wanted to break down our five favorite songs for you guys, but narrowing down that list was no small task! Somehow though, we did manage, so let’s jump in!
Listen to The Secret of Us here!
‘us.’ Ft. Taylor Swift (!!!!)
This is the collaboration of our dreams. We genuinely couldn’t have thought this up if we tried. Taylor Swift is undoubtedly in a class all of her own, and her doing a (very rare) feature on one of the most talented artists in pop music albums has sent us into a spiral. We want this song to be playing on an endless loop in our headphones and we would be beyond happy.
‘Good Luck Charlie’
We are going to fully convince ourselves that the title of this song was inspired by the hit Disney Channel show starring fellow pop icon Bridgit Mendler.
‘Good Luck Charlie’ isn’t being talked enough about online for our liking, so allow us to say that it’s one of the best songs on the record. The track is soft and emotional, and feels very personal, which is our favorite state for Gracie to write from.
‘I Love You. I’m Sorry’
The sister song to ‘I Miss You, I’m Sorry’ is here and she is as devastatingly heartbreaking! Having a song that so directly ties to a song from an artist’s past discography is something that we can’t really recall seeing, it’s so beyond genius and shows that time can heal, but the emotions can still be triggered and brought up.
‘Close To You’
‘Close To You’ being released is still not something we’ve been able to process. We’ve been waiting for what seems like forever to have this song easily accessible to us, and now it’s ours and we’ve had it on repeat since its release. ‘Close To You’ is a perfect pop song.
‘Blowing Smoke’
As soon as The Secret of Us came out, everyone on our social media timelines was talking about this track, it is proving to be an instant hit. The concept of trying to move on while also being so intensely affected by watching your ex move on seemingly effortlessly is something so many of us can relate to, and that instant connection with the fans was quite apparent.
