Pardon us. It’s only natural when royal gala apples are mingling around a swimsuit-clad Ashe, accessorized with pumps, of course, that our first thought is to do with something about a “woman who ate.” However, this isn’t Eve’s typical life instructional manual. We know the fruit was a red herring. Significantly, too, the love story festering between the soft rock melted ambiance of 80s guitar strings and our synchronized, springing kicks into the lake water during ‘Running Out Of Time.’ Rather, it’s a healthy inhale after a long season away.
If Ashe is swallowing anything whole, never to be seen again, it’s her twenties. Each candlelit year is a gnarly bite until we hear the echoing lyric, “And my twenties (Twenties) are running.” Even strutting away, if you will, from the sun-dazzling heat and into the abyss of the thirties zone. And this isn’t us coming up with the imagery but the music video itself. So blame co-director Ashe or co-producer Ashe. Either will do while simultaneously cheering her on for such an achievement! Every frame has her splintering with light as darkness brushes the nearing edges of the frame. Ominous, in theory, we know. But we guess there’s only so much sands of time left.
Choreographing Her Twenties
Ashe, always one to surpass expectations, saw a name badge, thought, “I could do one better,” and decided to mark her debut album, Ashlyn, which came out when she was 28. Then, Rae followed a year later. This timing is significant, as it marks our first exposure to Willson’s sound at a point when she is now 31. While her letter suggests that ‘Running Out Of Time’ could’ve technically been written in late 2022 when she moved back to Nashville, Tennessee, it’s still a send-off to one decade of her life. Therefore, playing off the theme of the clock’s ticking hand, we wanted to compare sonic time capsules of Ashe: 20 seconds for her twenties. Musical nancies, we know choruses can technically go over this allotted time. However, for all purposes of staying on the target of being witty, we’re saying it’s such!
Ashlyn
Much like a shriveled pomegranate, the piano-heavy ‘Moral of the Story’ derives from Ashe’s ability to squeeze out the decay in all of us to uproot a new harvesting. Although it has those glimpses of summer pop in the harmonizing, it’s more careful and precise, saving the wild unleashes of melodies for upcoming tracks. This was her breakout single, obviously! The moral is choosing herself, leaving behind someone she married when she was only 21, and instead welcoming in a flourishing career.
Rae
There’s harmonization, and then there’s theater-kid harmonizing, which feels untamed, frolicking into unified choreography with their peers. This soundbite from Ashe’s ‘Another Man’s Jeans’ has a pure pop sound with some country elements stylized, and you’re looking at us with a puzzling look. The yee-haw is so gentle that one would mostly read it as dirty bubblegum. This is Ashe at her spunkiest, clad with atmospheric claps and revving car engines, matching the colorful pallet in the beachy landscape. Which, you know, is the point of summer flings!

It’s true. We’ll probably rattle off various other questions come September 6, but we’ll settle on just one for now! Which Ashe song best describes your twenties? It can either be thus far or as someone who has dipped into the thirties pool like her as a whole! Fire your answers away @thehoneypop. Then stop at our Instagram and Facebook pages for more coverage, such as this additional article on ‘Running Out Of Time,’ which works when you need a fun, squealing fandom friend to bond over a broader overview of the song!
