Grayscale just: 1. started a tour with BOYS LIKE GIRLS, 2. dropped their brand new track ‘Summer Clothes,’ AND 3. dropped a music video for said track that is probably one of the most chaotic, unhinged things we’ve seen in a while.
Given the first seconds of the music video telling us that the band had no idea what each of them had suggested, we should’ve expected this. But really, could we have expected this? Grayscale said “never let them know your next move” with the ‘Summer Clothes’ mv and we’re not mad about it. A little confused, maybe, but not mad. In all seriousness though, we love the direction they took with this and have to give our kudos to the band and directors Calebe Severo & Jacob Darby for bringing it all together.
Leading up to the drop Grayscale sent out tiny rubber ducks to a bunch of their fans and have since been posting rubber ducks non-stop on Instagram. And that got us thinking. If Grayscale can make everything about rubber ducks, so can we. So with that in mind, here are 5 rubber ducks we think match the vibe of some of Grayscale’s music.
‘Summer Clothes’

Since the ‘Summer Clothes’ music video takes place poolside this is the obvious choice is it not? This could also apply to ‘Diamond,’ since both tracks exude a fun, summery vibe. Unfortunately, there aren’t too many rubber ducks with high heels or alligators so the poolside duck is the closest thing we can give you.
‘Dirty Bombs’

This rubber duck really captures the vibes of:
“Why do you still go on the internet?
Who gives a f*ck of what those people think?
Just lonely souls that you never met
Why do you play with all of that?“
Sitting on a phone in a whirlpool surrounded by other ducks is a great metaphor for the lonely souls on the internet talking sh*t that you need to just tune out at times.
‘Not Afraid To Die‘

This is the ‘NATD’ duck and we’re dying on that hill. Look at his helmet, his glasses, the chain. This duck has places to be, look at his propeller, he’s ready to go. He is NOT afraid to die.
‘In Violet’

It’s a purple punk duck. The song is called ‘In Violet.’ This one feels pretty self-explanatory. The purple punk duck WOULD participate in the ‘In Violet’ jump at a Grayscale show, we just know it.
‘What’s On Your Mind’

Look at this duck. It does not have a single thought inside its brain at all. ‘What’s On Your Mind’ except it’s just us asking the duck about the horrors it’s facing.
Or maybe it’s just thinking about what cities it’ll get tickets to see Grayscale in. Who are we to say?
We hope you enjoyed our silly little jaunt into the whimsy of rubber ducks. If Grayscale can do it, so can we. Be sure to stream ‘Summer Clothes‘ and please let us know your favorite parts of the music video because honestly, there’s so much to unpack there we can’t decide.
