How incredible is it that we have been supporting our beloved creators for so long? We’ve seen them reach spectacular heights with their talent. Just look at the great CG5. He’s a prime example of how combining your passion for music and content creation can help you grow alongside your unique and global fanbase!
CG5 has been releasing original and catchy songs for so long, and his ‘Listen To The Music‘ has become our newest obsession. The single’s message is full of positivity, and it’s basically us in a nutshell: Music can cure everything. It’s our forever best friend! We’re so thankful that this song exists, and that CG5 has added a fun, country, and colorful touch to this theme. We’re so fond of this track, and we think you will also adore it!
After enjoying the song on repeat and smiling nonstop with the music video, we knew we had to chat with CG5 about his creative process with ‘Listen To The Music.’ Luckily for us, we ended up talking with him about this song and so much more! He’s a sweetheart, and we love to see how he has combined a fantastic artistic life in our online world. Without further ado, let’s get deeper into the behind-the-scenes of this track and the bond with his fans, who love to be alongside this amazing journey with him!
The story behind how ‘Listen To The Music’ came to you is fascinating, and we just had to ask about that first. You dreamt of another artist performing this song; how does it feel to be the actual creator and performer of such a fun track?
Well, about a year ago, I had a dream where I went to a Justin Bieber concert, and he was singing the chorus to this song. When I woke up, I realized… that song doesn’t exist yet! So, I decided to get to work on it immediately. It came together so easily, and it became what it is now.
There has recently been a rise in the mixture of pop and country elements in songs that the public seems to be eating up. What inspired you to mix the two together in your new music?
I only recently decided to sprinkle a little country into a couple of my songs just because it seemed fun to experiment with. But I’m still sticking to my electronic pop roots moving forward, and I am looking forward to hearing what people think of the next few things coming out.
In that same vein, if you could have any country/pop artist jump on ‘Listen To The Music,’ who would it be?
Funny enough, I could see Connor Price jumping on this song. Even though he isn’t a country artist, I’m not one either. So it would just be fun for us to see what we could do together with country and pop. But I just want to work with him in general.
‘Listen to the Music’ instantly became a favorite mood-lifter of ours. Do you have certain songs that put your mind at ease and bring a smile on as soon as you hear them?
I’ve been getting back into K-Pop. I especially love ENHYPEN’s new single XO (Only If You Say Yes). It keeps my head bopping. I’m so intrigued by the beauty and structure of K-Pop.
‘Absolutely Anything’ really changed things for you! What is a moment when you look back on that rollout process where you could tell things were changing fast?
This was the first time I saw things really exploding through TikTok for me back in 2019, when I saw people using the portion of this song that goes like, “I used to be so beautiful, now look at me.” There were over seven million video creations based around this song, and I was absolutely blown out of the water by the response. I enjoyed writing this song with OR3O, who actually sang that part that went so viral. It opened my mind to a new world of mainstream success.
What’s it been like handling the quick success of your music? What types of activities or hobbies do you have that keep you from feeling so anxious about millions of people streaming your music on a day-to-day basis?
I feel like I’ve handled it well. I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to work from home on my own music production. It may seem like a loud, lavish life full of parties, but it’s a quiet, comfortable life for me, and I love it. If I’m not making music with my time, however, I’m just watching Modern Family or playing games on my PS5.
Twitch has been a huge asset to connect with your fans. Do you think that allowing fans to have that kind of look into your life outside of just the music makes the connection they feel to the music stronger?
Absolutely. I love it when I stream while I’m writing and producing a song, and the fans gravitate towards what I’m writing and even give their own feedback and suggestions on it. It’s very interactive, and I understand the impact I make in involving my fans in my music process.
The visuals for your ‘Listen To The Music’ are beautiful. How did you come up with the theme for the video?
I worked closely with Dash McDonald of Mad Lads Media, with whom I’ve done a couple of other wonderful videos. He really knows how to convey my vision in a great way, and he knows how to listen to my feedback, which is definitely important when working on my music videos. The theme of the video came pretty easily when I saw shots from the music video for ‘Chemical’ by Post Malone that I absolutely loved. I wanted the video to be similar to that, but with that country touch that it needed. So we rented out Petal Pix Studios in AZ and got to work composing this beautiful video.
We love seeing our favorite online content creators in our playlists! Are you planning on doing fun content rollouts with ‘Listen To the Music’ to hype up the release even more? If so, can you share any hints about any surprises fans can look forward to?
I’ve mostly finished rolling out content for that song, but I look forward to releasing some collaborations that the fans certainly haven’t seen coming, and I’ll definitely be putting out content around that.
You have created so many songs related to amazing video games that have shaken pop culture. If you could create a song for a video game saga, which saga would you like to participate in and why?
I recently had the opportunity to make a song with MOB Entertainment for their popular horror game, Poppy Playtime. The song I made for them, ‘Sleep Well,’ was released alongside its third chapter. It was awesome to get to hear that song in-game, and to see the absolutely bonkers viral response that came from it. It charted globally at #12!!! I’d say that was a big achievement for me. But in the beginning, I was just thrilled to see that I was able to participate in Poppy Playtime’s game soundtrack.
Performing at VidCon is a YouTuber’s dream come true! What was it like to hear that you were going to perform at such an important event for the YouTube community?
I was so excited when I heard the news. Even though I only performed half an hour, it was certainly enough time to just watch the fans freak out over little old me. They are the reason I get to do what I do.
Music Producer. Singer. Songwriter. YouTuber. You have a fair amount of descriptors, but how do you identify yourself? Is it challenging to juggle all these endeavors?
It can get challenging at times, especially since I am also a performer starting my tour up in a second here. But I love it all. I am so happy I get to wake up, stay home, and sit at my computer, making tunes for millions to enjoy. And best of all, I am so grateful to have a beautiful wife to support me along the way, forever. Life keeps going up.
