It’s no secret that we stan Albuquerque emo band, Savings. We’ve been hooked ever since they released their previous EP, Get Well Soon. But with their new EP, How Do You Feel?, they surpassed all of our expectations. Today, we’re so stoked because we have an exclusive interview with lead vocalist, Sam Wilmot of Savings! We talk all about their latest EP, what it’s like at a Savings show, and more. Let’s jump right in!
Hi and welcome to The Honey POP! We’re so excited to have you! For our readers who may not be familiar with your music, what’s one thing they should know about Savings?
First and foremost Savings is a group of best friends, we love each other deeply and we hope that shows through in the music and on stage. We’d like to call ourselves an emo band but at the end of the day we pull influence from so many different genres. At the end of the day whether you’re at a Savings show or streaming our music we hope you feel seen, heard and are able to process whatever it is you’re going through. We love you <3
Congratulations on your new EP, How Do You Feel?! What’s your favorite song from it?
Thank you so much! The response from this project has been overwhelming to say the least. We knew this record sonically sounded different than our last and we were curious to see how it would land. I think we all have different favorites from the EP, but speaking for myself (Sam) my favorite is either ‘cry with you’ or ‘Temporary.’

You said that you wrote two songs off of the EP in the studio. What were they and what was that process like?
Yeah! We brought about 8 songs to the studio that we wanted to flesh out in studio and we ended up feeling really good about 3 of them or so. We eventually ended up writing ‘Temporary’ and ‘To Be Honest’ in studio. The process in itself was challenging, but a privilege to say the least. With a huge nod to our producer and best friend Billy Mannino, for pushing us to be our most genuine creative selves. ‘To Be Honest’ in specific took a full day of writing and rewriting, lunch and movie breaks. Eventually we struck inspiration after watching a documentary for one of our fav bands The Maine. We immediately started tracking the rhythm guitars and the rest is history.
What’s your favorite lyric from the EP?
My (Sam) favorite lyric from the EP is the bridge on ‘Cry With You:’ “Stuck on all of the pages that we never read, hung up on all of the words we left unsaid, I’m losing all track of any innocence we had, so how do we get back.” These lyrics for me we’re very self aware but at the same time both coming from a place of understanding and longing. If that makes any sense lol.
You’ve been playing a lot of shows recently! What can people expect at a Savings show?
Man, I love playing shows more than anything. Growing up my favorite part of shows was crowd engagement with the artist, so I constantly try to do the same thing. Savings shows, have a lot of energy, crowd banter (sometimes too much). At the end of the day we hope a Savings show feels like home in a way. Overall its a privilege to be able to play these shows and have people support us, much less know the lyrics and sing along. We’re extremely grateful for what we get to do.
You also recently played a show with Real Friends! What was that like?
Yeah! That show was honestly the best hometown show we’ve played to date. We were so grateful for the opportunity to open for one of our favorite bands, much less at such a historic venue in our hometown. Hearing that many people scream the lyrics to our songs was life changing (not to be dramatic lol). We can’t say enough good things about the guys in Real Friends , forever saying thank you to them and thankful for the conversations we got to have. Extremely nice guys.

You quote retweeted us saying “A reminder that when we’re not tweeting about Costco.” If you had $200 to spend on anything at Costco, what would you buy and why?
I wont lie, only ⅕ of us have Costco memberships, but all being said I’d probably buy a couple squish mellows, nerds gummy clusters, Kombucha, try every sample, Costco hot dogs, the possibilities are endless to be honest lmao.
We at The Honey POP love being sweet like honey. What’s one sweet thing you can say about your bandmates?
These guys are my family, we’re all best friends and anytime I get to hangout with them, whether it be music related or not is a privilege. Love the hell out my friends and grateful to do all of this with them.
Last question! We believe in the power of manifestation. If you could manifest one thing for Savings, what would it be?
Savings Full U.S Tour 2025.
