A Fragile Enchantment By Allison Saft

A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft was hands down one of our favorite romantasy books this year! We immediately connected with our main character, Niamh, her selflessness and kindness were endearing, and we couldn’t get enough of her character growth. If you’re looking for a book that’ll make you feel all the feelings, this is it! We were taken on a delightful rollercoaster of emotions. One minute giggling over the romance, and the other moved when learning about a character’s past. Speaking of the romance, Niamh and Kit were the perfect grumpy x sunshine couple! The banter was top-tier. Allison Saft’s writing style is truly enchanting and grabs your attention right from the first page.

Principles Of (E)motion By Sara Read

The next 2024 book we’d like to highlight is Sara Read’s Principles of (E)motion. This adult STEMinist novel was one of our first reviews of 2024, and it stuck with us all year. We think about Dr. Margaret “Meg” Brightwood and her character development more often than we can count. She’s so real, and we can see a lot of ourselves in her. It also helps that her opposites-attract romance with Isaac has some of the best chemistry we’ve seen in all of 2024! (It’s that good!)

Content warnings: death of a grandparent, anxiety and panic attacks, mentions of murder and drug addiction
I Hope This Doesn’t Find You By Ann Liang

We’re big fans of Ann Liang’s books, and I Hope This Doesn’t Find You is no exception! We absolutely loved following Sadie as she learned that maybe perfectionism isn’t everything and academic validation isn’t healthy. Her stubbornness is admirable and works perfectly with her academic rivals to lovers romance with Julius. We couldn’t stop smiling when they were together! I Hope This Doesn’t Find You is for all the people-pleasers striving for perfection and striving for the love they deserve

Conditions Of A Heart By Bethany Mangle

Our next top 2024 read was Conditions of a Heart by Bethany Mangle! Our main character, Brynn, was so much fun to read about. We loved her humour and how we got to see her develop and grow throughout the story. Her inner conversations with different parts of her body were engaging to read about and gave the reader a glimpse into what it is like for her to live with EDS, MCAS, and POTS. One of our favorite aspects was seeing how Brynn’s connection with her friends and family adapted and grew as she did. Plus the romance with Oliver was adorable!

Women Of Good Fortune By Sophie Wan

You may remember that we read and reviewed Women of Good Fortune by Sophie Wan several months before its official release. And we already knew then that we’d be writing about it in our top 2024 book roundup. Everything, from the characters’ relationships to the plot twists, was a 10/10 from us. This contemporary romance is smart, relatable, and so, so well-written! If you’re a fan of Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean’s 8, then you need to get this book. We promise you won’t regret it.

Otherworldly By F.T. Lukens

Our next top 2024 read is for all of our cozy fantasy readers! Otherworldly by F.T. Lukens has an immersive setting. From the first page, we were transported into a town enduring a never-ending winter. We got an in-depth dive into world-building and mythology. Each of the characters was intriguing to learn about and we couldn’t stop smiling while reading. We definitely recommend Otherworldly for fans of the found family and grumpy x sunshine tropes!

The Ballad Of Darcy And Russell By Morgan Matson

Fans of Morgan Matson won’t be disappointed with The Ballad of Darcy and Russell. This whirlwind of a romance takes place over the course of a day and explores the idea of love at first sight. We follow Darcy and Russell, who are both headed for college but have unique struggles they’re working out. We loved their family dynamics, and all of the side characters added another fun element to the story. If you love road trips and chaotic families, this one’s for you!

The Next Best Fling By Gabriella Gamez

Our next favorite 2024 book is Gabriella Gamez’s adult romance, The Next Best Fling! With a plus-size, Latina main character and a love interest with the greenest flags, this book had us in a chokehold. Did we mention the love interest is a former NFL player? Yeah. Yeah. Marcela and Theo’s relationship has raised our dating standards, and rightfully so. The dialogue, attention to detail, and overall balance between angst and spice was *chef’s kiss*. We finished this book in one sitting, and you probably will, too!

Legend Of The White Snake By Sher Lee

Legend of the White Snake by Sher Lee is another one of our top 2024 books! It retells the Chinese legend of the same name. Only this time with a queer romance between a stubborn prince named Xian and a snake spirit named Zhen. We loved the pacing of this fantasy novel because it also avoids a drawn-out misunderstanding at the beginning. These characters fight for their love, even going as far as sacrificing everything to be together in the end.

The Davenports: More Than This By Krystal Marquis

Lastly, we’re highlighting The Davenports: More Than This by Krystal Marquis in our top 2024 book list. Is anyone surprised? No, we didn’t think so! Her debut historical romance, The Davenports, even made it into our top 2023 book releases last year. And the sequel blew away all our expectations (which were already pretty high)! Our four main characters are back with a new season full of drama, love triangles, and chasing lifelong dreams. We already can’t wait for the next installment in the series!
