2024 was huge for EVNNE. Two highly acclaimed mini-albums, a tour, fan meetings, their first win, and so much more… EVNNE were booked and busy. And 2025 is looking out to be even better for EVNNE with the release of their best mini-album before with HOT MESS. EVNNE continue to grow as artists, idols, and a group. And this new comeback goes to show their insane synergy and their incredible talent.
The Title Track
EVNNE established their unique color and sound with just their debut, ‘Trouble.’ They ventured into a darker sound with ‘UGLY‘ and ‘Badder Love‘ gave us the most youthful and fresh sound. ‘HOT MESS,’ on the other hand, is EVNNE at their brightest, most fun, and most authentic. There is a sense of unity in ‘HOT MESS.’ It creates a feeling of a team with its anthem-like feel. ‘HOT MESS’ is cheeky, unique, and a boost of energy and confidence. It translates EVNNE’s energy as a group into a song with fun melodies yet a deeper and comforting meaning. Yet again, EVNNE prove they can do any concept, and they will always own it.
The B-Sides
It’s not just ‘HOT MESS’ as a song that makes this their best comeback yet. The b-sides are some of the best music EVNNE has ever put out. Starting with ‘KESHIKI‘ which might be the closing track, but it is also the one song we already knew as they released it last year in honor of their fan meeting in Japan. This Korean version of the song, written and composed by Keita, hits just as much and blends perfectly with the rest of the b-sides.
‘Birthday’ slows down a little bit from the absolute outburst of energy in the title track. It opts for a vibey and smooth sound that nonetheless gives off a bright and carefree energy. True to its name, it has that perfect celebration energy. With a hint of pop-rock influence, ‘Love Like That’ is a must-listen from HOT MESS. It feels fresh, youthful, and bright in its own unique way. It is the type of song that’s so good, it reaches levels of pop perfection that is an immediate serotonin boost.

You may think you have HOT MESS figured out, but no one could’ve predicted a song like ‘Crown.’ It’s bold, loud, and something, yet again, new but perfect for EVNNE. ‘Crown’ completes the mini-album with its surprising turn. It is somehow darker, and EVNNE have never gone quite this far with their hip-hop influence or their EDM and techno influence. Yet, ‘Crown’ is a powerful bomb as a party anthem.
‘Youth’ is truly the cherry on top of the cake, the song that puts everything together in a perfect release. The mixture of pop-rock and a synth sound makes way for a beautiful, truly hopeful and, well, youthful song about the struggles of growing up and how they lead you to be the best person you can be. In other words, with this release, EVNNE put the message into the world that it is okay to be a ‘HOT MESS’ because that’s what youth is all about – making mistakes, falling, and learning. HOT MESS is not only musically a step up with the members expressing themselves more than ever through their music by participating in the songwriting. It is also a masterpiece in its concept and messaging. EVNNE have never been more authentic, vulnerable, and masterful at the music they do.
