Don’t Panic, TXT’s Beomgyu Just Saved Your Playlists With His Debut Solo Mixtape

Yes, you read that right! We have our second member of TXT gifting us with their solo debut mixtape! Today, March 27th, Beomgyu released Panic, and MOA will never be the same again.

Beomgyu’s talents as an artist and performer are well-known thanks to TXT’s glittering success, but some listeners might not realize we’ve had glimpses of Beomgyu’s potential as a writer and producer, too. He’s credited on many TXT tracks, including fan favorites ‘Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go,’ ‘No Rules,’ and ‘Sweat.’

Now, thanks to Panic, Beomgyu’s talents are truly unleashed. The mixtape track is exactly the searing indie-pop song that every MOA dreamed Beomgyu would one day get to release!

The Panic Story

Panic came to life through Beomgyu’s own experiences of how music can heal and comfort listeners. Having found hope in the work of his favorite artists, Beomgyu wants to be that guiding light for MOA, too. Who’s going to tell him he’s already been that for six years?!

With lyrics like “This is my answer,” Beomgyu faces the challenge he set himself head-on. In fact, ‘Panic’ was initially planned to be entirely in English, before Beomgyu turned to Yeonjun for advice on whether Korean or English would suit the mixtape better. His fellow TXT member (and soloist) answered, “If you want to be really down to earth and grounded, I think you should go with Korean.”

This is incredibly reminiscent of the TXT b-side ‘Skipping Stones,’ from 2023’s The Name Chapter: FREEFALL, which was entirely in Korean. Just like ‘Skipping Stones,’ Panic is rife with TXT’s quintessential sincerity and dreamlike imagery.

The Panic Music Video

Speaking of imagery, Beomgyu contributed substantially to the music video for this mixtape. As the video opens, he’s totally isolated which is a feeling we can all relate to when we’re in a state of panic. As the song builds, so do Beomgyu’s attempts at freedom. By the end, Beomgyu is liberated as he walks out the door, having succeeded in overcoming his Panic, once again highlighting that message of hope.

The Panic Team

First and foremost, the most important member of the team who brought us Panic was, of course, Beomgyu. In addition to his contributions to the concept and MV, Beomgyu is credited as a composer, producer, and lead lyricist on the track. Do you remember the Beomidio Weverse Live where Beomgyu cried, talking about how much he missed Soobin and how he was feeling the weight of Soobin’s absence during his break? (If you don’t remember, you can watch the live here). Moreover, do you remember the song that was playing during that moment? It was ‘Home’ by singer-songwriter Heo Hoy Kyung.

Now, as Beomgyu aims to convey strength and comfort to listeners, he has turned to an artist who provided that for him. We’re so happy that Heo Hoy Kyung contributed to the lyrics of ‘Panic,’ and we think it’s truly magical for this full circle moment to happen in Beomgyu’s debut. It’s also another beautiful example of TXT’s deep sincerity and understanding of the fan-artist relationship.

Following the award-winning success of Yeonjun’s GGUM last September, Beomgyu drops this in March. Is the fact that both debut mixtapes happened in their respective birthday months a coincidence? We’re keeping our eyes peeled…
