We are genuinely lifelong David Archuleta fans! We have been on the sidelines cheering him on since the days of voting for him on American Idol. Given how long we’ve been fans, believe us when we say David Archuleta is truly at the top of his game with his newest song, ‘Créme Brulée.’ ‘Créme Brulée’ is a self-described sexy and smooth track, which sees David in his most true-to-self form we have seen yet on his journey as an artist. ‘Créme Brulée’ is just the start of this new era for David, and we were lucky enough to get to chat with him all about the track, as well as his stunning cover of one of the greatest songs of all time, ‘Freedom’ by the late George Michael.
Listen to ‘Créme Brulée’ here!
Hi David! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! To start us off, ‘Créme Brulée’ is officially out! This marks your first original song of the year. What can you tell us about the creative process surrounding this song?
The creative process was fun, light-hearted, and getting into the flirty, sexy vibes for the first time! I wanted to start off the year with something fun, so I felt ‘Créme Brulée’ was the perfect song!
‘Créme Brulée’ is one of those songs that we can already tell will be soundtracking so many nights out for people this summer. When crafting this song, did you always know that it was going to go in the direction of being a dance-pop track?
I hope it is a part of people’s summer nights! From the get-go, I knew it was going to be a fun, dancey, vibey song in a more laid-back way. I wanted it to be smoother and sexier.
You recently covered ‘Freedom’ by the late and great George Michael. What does this song mean to you, and what made you want to put your stamp on it?
I wanted to channel George’s spirit of liberation and freeing himself from the judgements and misconceptions from people about sexuality. He was allowing himself to be who he was and to have the space to explore that, and he demanded that from others to allow him to set himself free from who he was trying to be for so many years. ‘Freedom’ is a message we can really use now in 2025 just as much as ever, even with the song having been released 35 years ago.
Really digging into the lyrics of ‘Freedom’ it makes perfect sense to us for you to cover this track. It seems like a lot of the lyrics mirror your journey in many ways. Is there a specific lyric in this song that really has stuck with you?
Yes, I feel every lyric reflects where I’m at in life. I am having a coming out of the dark moment, and ‘Freedom’ was that real burst through into shattering anything tying me down to make room for the ‘Créme Brulée’ era.
Once again, thank you so much David for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what can fans expect as we go further into 2025?
Of course! They can expect a more sexy, grounded, and sensual side of David. David Archuleta 2.0 is going to be more mature and flirty and, in ways, more youthful because of the more playful era and getting comfortable in my own body and sensuality.
