We can’t resist a good contemporary romance! And this next one especially piqued our interest after hearing it was based on the author’s life. Save the Date by Allison Raskin tells the story of Emma Moskowitz, a couples therapist whose fiancé dumps her six months before their wedding.
We can only imagine how difficult it must be to recover from such heartbreak, but Emma takes it in stride and searches for someone who would be willing to marry her on the wedding day as planned. Emma hits it off with a podcast host named Will, only he doesn’t want to rush into getting married like she does.
This book has so much good banter and swoonworthy moments. Here are three things we love about Allison Raskin’s Save the Date!

Book Overview: Save The Date
Content warnings: mentions of cheating and divorce
Summary: When couples therapist Emma Moskowitz is unceremoniously dumped by her fiancé six months before their wedding, her world comes crashing down: her thriving practice, status as a trusted online creator, even her book deal all hinge on the fact that Emma is an expert when it comes to relationships and mental health. Not to mention the pain of a broken heart now interfering with her daily life.
But…if she could find a new groom by the wedding day, life could continue as she anticipated. After all, she’s ready to get married. And she’s never believed in The One anyway.
Her groom search catches the attention of podcast host Will, who offers to chronicle Emma’s story on a new show. Emma and Will hit it off instantly… It’s really too bad Will doesn’t want to be married.
Soon Emma’s set up with Matt, a kind, incredibly handsome, recently divorced man. Emma and Matt connect easily, proving her theory that Mr. Right doesn’t need to bring butterflies to her stomach and fireworks at every kiss. Her and Matt’s relationship is simple and comfortable—and more importantly, he wants to be married.
As the wedding date nears, Emma starts to question if she and Matt are as good a match as they think. Matt references his ex-wife a lot. And he doesn’t seem to understand Emma’s sense of humor that much. But the wedding is around the corner, and so many people are counting on Emma to see her plan through: her editor, her followers…even Will.
The Chemistry Between Emma And Will
Our absolute favorite thing about Save the Date is Emma and Will’s chemistry. We already knew they were endgame from their first date. They have the same sense of humor, and their teasing banter hits all the right notes. They couldn’t stop unintentionally flirting, even when they had to work together on the podcast. And we can’t get enough of the moments of tension when Will would get jealous of Emma’s new relationship with Matt, or vice versa. *chef’s kiss*
Dating After Heartbreak
Another thing we love about Allison Raskin’s Save the Date is how Emma gets back into dating. She hit a few bumps with her first dates: one with an ex-boyfriend she couldn’t let go and the other with a former neighbor who always had a thing for her. Emma has grown a lot over the years, and she knows what she wants in a partnership. But she’s still learning how to not let her heartbreak take over her thoughts. We just love how real this book gets.
Getting Insight Into Couples Therapy
Speaking of real, Save the Date does an incredible job of portraying couples therapy with a diverse range of couples. Two of Emma’s clients argue to no end but have chosen to stay and work things through. Another couple struggles with one spouse’s mother. Emma’s therapist mode often pops up in her personal conversations, to the point where she’s noticing tension between her own parents. Everything comes full circle by the epilogue, and we live for the mental health representation.
A lovely contemporary romance full of mental health representation, Allison Raskin’s Save the Date makes it easy for us to root for Emma’s search for love after heartbreak.
