ENHYPEN rocked up to Coachella with new haircuts and custom Prada denim fits, and our world was never the same. We knew that they would smash this performance, but from the vocals to the choreography to the attitude, ENHA really went above and beyond.
At first, we thought the ‘Fuel The Fever’ VCR intro might be a spoiler, only for ENHYPEN to announce U.S. and European tour dates after the first week of Coachella, and presumably a comeback, DESIRE: UNLEASH, on June 5th, after the second week. We truly didn’t know what we were in for.
And as if that wasn’t enough, ENHYPEN’s Coachella setlist choices were absolutely golden. We’re going to break down every song choice and tell you exactly why it was so perfect. Fair warning: there’s no recovery from how iconic this set is.
‘Blockbuster’
ENHYPEN opened their Coachella setlist with ‘Blockbuster.’ With Ni-ki and Heeseung seamlessly taking on TXT Yeonjun’s rap verse and a dance break, the anthem was a heck of an opening statement. ENHA didn’t come to play! Can we also take a very professional moment to spotlight Heeseung’s red hair? Thank you for your time.
‘Blessed-Cursed’
Next up, ENHYPEN throw it back to a classic! ‘Blessed-Cursed’ begins with Jake on a megaphone, so it could never be anything but epic. Jungwon and Sunghoon said, “Don’t tell me what to do,” but we demand y’all watch this on repeat, actually.
‘Future Perfect (Pass the MIC)’
It might be an endlessly meme-d title track, but ENHYPEN know just how much their Western audiences love ‘Future Perfect!’ We were both relieved and exhilarated to see it make their Coachella setlist! This was also definitely one of the songs that benefited from the live band – that guitar riff was delicious.
‘ParadoXXX Invasion’
ENHA’s set reached its most hip-hop after a brief chat with the audience, thanks to beloved b-side ‘ParadoXXX Invasion.’ We loved seeing this back-to-back with ‘Future Perfect’ – MANIFESTO: DAY 1, getting her flowers!
‘Paranormal’
From a paradox to the ‘Paranormal!’ If our adoration of this song weren’t enough to earn its place on the Coachella setlist, then ENHYPEN’s love of performing it certainly would! Have you ever seen Jay look happier, TBH?
‘XO (Only If You Say Yes)’
Will that Sunoo and Heeseung unit choreography be playing on a loop in our minds for the rest of time? Yes. Next question. Just when we thought ‘XO’ couldn’t get any better, they brought the funk to this live band version.
‘No Doubt’
This might be an underrated ENHYPEN title track, but there’s ‘No Doubt’ it deserved a place on the Coachella setlist (sorry). Unlike ‘XO’ before it, which was the all-English version, ENHA performed the Korean version of this one. Thank heavens, because it meant we, and Coachella, got to witness Jake’s “Nan gwenchana.”
‘Sweet Venom’
Live bass guitar for the intro to ‘Sweet Venom,’ aka all of our dreams come true. For this one, ENHYPEN switched back to the English version, and (perhaps controversially?) we were ok with that! ENHA really covered all bases (pun not intended this time), making their music accessible for new audiences at Coachella while still giving ENGENEs some deep cuts on the setlist.
‘Daydream’
Not going to lie, we didn’t expect this one! We weren’t sure how a track with mostly whispered vocals would translate to a boisterous festival crowd, but ENHA pulled it off. ‘Daydream’ felt like ENHYPEN at their most unleashed, and our love of this song just stepped up like 1009 levels.
‘Moonstruck’
Those mics were on, and ENHYPEN came to prove it! Performing a ballad after all that dancing is a bold move, especially one like ‘Moonstruck’ with those Heeseung adlibs and Ni-ki’s high note, but when you have talent like ENHYPEN does, you can pull it off.
‘Bite Me’
ENHYPEN’s discography is so stacked that we’d literally temporarily forgotten about their biggest hit until ‘Bite Me’ appeared on the Coachella setlist. That “oh, oh, oh my God,” had the adrenaline rushing through our veins in a millisecond.
‘Drunk-Dazed’
The hits really don’t stop coming, do they? ‘Drunk-Dazed’ probably captures ENHYPEN’s essence the best out of all their tracks, so we love that it secured a Coachella spot for both old fans and new ones! Then, to transform it into this EDM, drum & bass remix was just the icing on top of the cake!
‘Brought The Heat Back’
Without a moment to breathe (literally, there wasn’t even a second between them), ENHYPEN hit us straight away with ‘Brought The Heat Back.’ ‘BTHB’ was a b-side that exceeded all expectations, so it was just the perfect choice for the grand finale. We never wanted it to end, but our hearts probably appreciated our pulses calming down.
That’s a wrap on ENHYPEN at Coachella. If you don’t mind, we’ll need several business days to recover. What was your favorite moment? Got a highlight from ENHYPEN’s Coachella setlist? Let us know on Twitter @TheHoneyPOP! And you can find us on Instagram and Facebook!
