If you’re a pop music fan, then you need Adamusic on your radar! Adam is a dynamic artist who recently got to remix Britney Spears’ ‘Stronger’ for the 25th anniversary edition of her Oops!… I Did It Again album, and you’ve probably already seen his iconic mashups going viral all over the internet. Between mashups and his original music, he brings such a fresh perspective to pop, learning from all-time legends while putting his own spin on the sounds we all love.
Our interview portfolio just got ‘Stronger,’ because we got to ask Adamusic all about remixing Britney, his original music, making viral mashups, playing World Pride, and so much more! Check out the remix below and keep reading for our exclusive Q&A.
Hi Adam, congrats on the success of your remix of Britney Spears’ ‘Stronger!’ It’s nearly gotten 700k streams on Spotify alone – what has it been like for you to see how much fans love your take on the song?
It’s been such a surreal experience! I’m so grateful for the reception. Her fans have been very welcoming to me, and I’m honored to have been part of such an iconic album.
It must have been incredible being part of the 25th anniversary edition of Britney’s Oops!… I Did It Again, especially since you’ve said you made Britney mashups in your room at 13. How did your involvement in the album come about? What was your vision for your remix?
It’s crazy to look back at some of those first mashups I did of ‘Baby One More Time,’ ‘Work B*tch,’ and ‘Toxic.’ Never in a million years did I think I’d have the chance to work on an official remix for her. The Britney mashups I’ve been making for the past decade are actually what landed me this opportunity. I was allowed to choose which song I wanted to do from Oops!… I Did It Again, and my immediate response was ‘Stronger’ – one of my favorite songs of hers. I knew I wanted to keep some of the original instrumental elements that made the song iconic in the first place, but I wanted to put a dance twist on it. I wanted to create a remix that a dance team or drag queen could perform to.
Britney has been such a cultural icon throughout her career, especially for the LGBTQ+ community! What inspires you most about her and her music?
She is really just one of the best to ever do it. I remember when I was a child, my sisters had Britney Spears HitClips – those old McDonald’s Happy Meal toys that could play one song on a little mp3 player – and listening to those was one of my first times being exposed to a pop star. I think she’s such a talent, not just as a performer, but as a songwriter, vocalist, and tastemaker. I recently finished her memoir, and my respect for her has only grown.
You’re always on the pulse of what’s trending in music, and a lot of people have compared Tate McRae’s latest music to Britney Spears. Who in the next generation of pop reminds you of longtime pop icons like Britney?
It’s interesting because I think the pop culture landscape has changed so much that pop icons like Britney don’t exist in the same way anymore. I definitely see some of the comparisons between her and artists like Tate McRae and Addison Rae, and I’m sure they take on a similar role for the new generation of listeners. The new generation of pop girls is fantastic, but also… no one else will ever be Britney.
You released ‘In My Dreams’ as your first single earlier this year! What was it like for you to show fans a new side of yourself after gaining so much traction with your mashups and remixes?
It was really exciting to step back into original music. I released an album in 2022, under my name ‘Adam Wright,’ but as I shifted towards DJing and dance music, I felt like that project wasn’t a representation of what music I want to make moving forward. I still have a lot of love for that project, those songs, and my collaborators, but I think I’m in a new era as an artist. I’m excited to explore the new possibilities moving forward as a producer and artist. I hope to create original music that gives the same feeling as my mashups and remixes.
How does your approach to your own music differ from how you approach your mashups?
Surprisingly, there’s a lot of crossover between them. Making mashups as a teenager actually helped me immensely when I went on to study Music Production at the Los Angeles College of Music. In a similar way, learning production, music theory, mixing, and songwriting helped the quality of my mashups by 1000%. The process between the two is definitely different, since I’m creating original melodies & rhythms (rather than pulling from existing material), but my headspace is the same.
Speaking of your approach to mashups, you blow us away every time with your clean transitions and creative pairings! What’s your creative process like when you’re planning and producing a mashup?
I feel like there’s a handful of different ways that my mashups come about. Whether it’s humming something in the car, comparing tempos & keys in my catalog, or creating a concept in my head, they typically come from a spark of inspiration. Simple two-song mashups are not that hard to make, especially with current-day apps, but I pride myself on my ear. My Year-End Megamixes that contain over 100 songs are a beast to complete. Between the audio and visual, those can take anywhere from 3-4 months to complete. I started making those when I was 14, and it’s become a passion project that I hope to never stop doing.
You played this year’s World Pride Music Festival in Washington, D.C.! How do you prepare for your shows, from choosing the perfect setlist to getting your energy up?
Being a pop DJ is incredibly fun, but also a little daunting. Pop is such a broad and diverse genre, and many pop fans have such passionate feelings (positive and negative) towards the music. I try to highlight as many sounds, vibes, and artists as possible. There are definitely some staple artists in my sets, though, like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, and Charli xcx. Even though it’s pop, I want listeners to go on a journey, and I think that’s something they can feel. A lot of live performance involves an energy transfer between the performer and the crowd, and I believe I get a lot of my energy from the response from the people who are there to enjoy the music.
With such great taste, we have to ask you about your own Pride playlist! What’s in your rotation this month?
If we’re taking new releases:
- Miley Cyrus & Naomi Campbell – ‘Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved’
- Snow Wife – ‘Bodyology’
- Lorde – ‘What Was That?’
- Marina – ‘I <3 U’
- Doechii & JT – ‘Alter Ego’
- Lady Gaga – ‘Abracadabra’ (obviously)
But for classic hits…
- Madonna – ‘Vogue’
- Robyn – ‘Dancing On My Own’ (Remix)
- Kylie Minogue – ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’
- Crystal Waters – ‘100% Pure Love’
- Chaka Khan/Whitney Houston – ‘I’m Every Woman’
- Lady Gaga – ‘Born This Way’ (obviously)
What can your fans look forward to in the rest of 2025?
Lots of new music and remixes are on the way! The past few months have been so busy between the Britney remix and prepping for Pittsburgh and World Pride, so I’m excited to have more time to work on new projects and figure out who I want to be as an artist in this next chapter. More DJ dates to come as well! I’ve been able to travel around the country this year, and I’m stoked for that to continue.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention or say to your fans that the questions didn’t touch on?
Playing World Pride was another one of those surreal moments. I was very honored to be asked to DJ on the main Dreamland stage for the festival in Washington, D.C. this year, and it was an experience I still have yet to fully process. Being able to showcase the mashups I’ve been making for the past decade to over 20,000 people on the biggest Pride stage in the world will be a moment of my life I will never forget. There are a lot of reasons to be grateful for right now, but that’s definitely one of the biggest.
