It’s been 11 months since ASTRO‘s Yoon Sanha debuted as a soloist with his mini-album, DUSK. It gave us a glimpse into his most personal songwriting and served some of the best and most vulnerable songs ever, with striking vocals and overflowing talent. It’s been a minute, but DUSK has never left our minds, which made the past eleven months feel like seconds. But we are glad to discover a new side to Sanha’s artistry and talent in his first solo comeback: CHAMELEON. It allows Sanha to explore different genres, ideas, and inspirations, shaping them to fit his unique aura—and it’s the mini-album we all needed for the summer; here’s why.
‘EXTRA VIRGIN’
For his solo debut, Sanha explored a range of strong, dark emotions that combined sadness and grief, but he’s now showcasing a much different side to his artistry. Unlike ‘Dive,’ ‘EXTRA VIRGIN’ is cheeky, fresh and summery. ‘EXTRA VIRGIN’ is confident but fun as he switches and mixes different genres. He leans into the comedic side of his personality, and it works exceptionally well, giving us a song full of personality and something to blast all summer long. It has such a Sanha vibe to it, and it makes you fall more in love with his personality, talent, and every aspect that makes him such a special idol. ‘EXTRA VIRGIN’ comes down to be that one fun song we all need, mixed in with Sanha’s unique essence: it’s perfect.
CHAMELEON
‘AURA’ is not only the perfect intro song for a mini-album like CHAMELEON, where Sanha explores different genres. It’s also the ideal transition between his debut with DUSK and this new era. It’s dark, luring, and in less than two minutes, Sanha gives us an overwhelming amount of emotions through his striking vocals. ‘Bad Mosquito’ changes the vibe drastically with its groovy bass line and fun imagery. It’s one of those songs that will get stuck in your head, but it’s no problem because ‘Bad Mosquito’ is such a serotonin booster.
Sanha dips his toes officially in a retro sound with ‘6PM (Nobody’s Business).’ Full of confidence and personality, this song embodies the feeling of a summer night, when nothing but the night ahead matters. ‘Love you like fools’ slows down the energy as the closing song, and Sanha gives us another side of him. The song is a pop ballad full of emotion and magic, and while it’s dedicated to his fans, it also fits right into the narrative of CHAMELEON. ‘Love you like fools’ is the perfect song for a summer night, when the party is over and you’re left with no one but your real friends. It’s a magical ballad that marks a beautiful conclusion to this special release, full of experimentation, gorgeous vocals, fresh sounds, and inspiring songs to make your summer unforgettable. We didn’t expect anything less from Sanha.
