Allow us to introduce you to your next favorite artist, Glenna Jane! Undoubtedly every playlist could always use a dash of indie-pop, especially when the songwriting is as relatable, and moving as what Glenna Jane brings to the table! Glenna is gearing up to release her debut (!!!) EP, and we were lucky enough to get to chat with her all about it, let’s dive in!
Listen to ‘Two Years’ here!
Hi Glenna Jane! Welcome to The Honey POP! Before we jump in, how would you describe your music to someone who is tuning in for the first time?
Imagine the girl next door–sort of dorky, zippy, awkward, wears her heart on her sleeve, doesn’t care if she’s cool kind of girl–made indie pop music! My music is like a memory box overflowing with polaroids, doodles, love letters, and ripped-out diary pages, memorabilia revealing the glimmering truths of growing up.
‘Juno’ acts as both your debut single, and the first track off our upcoming EP, Kid. What went into the decision of this track being the first showcase you wanted the public to see of you as an artist?
I really just wanted to lead with joy! Around the halfway point of recording the EP, I fell in love with my girlfriend, and our relationship sort of encapsulated the themes of ‘Juno’: blurring the lines between platonic and romantic love, loving your friends, and falling in love with them. I was feeling the tenderness of fully coming into my queerness, and that was when I knew I wanted ‘Juno’ to come out first. It was all the more important to me because representations of queer love and queer joy are so few and far between.
We know you’ve said ‘Juno’ was first born back in early 2023, where was that idea born from, and what life has that track now, two years later, taken on for you?
‘Juno’ came out of me reminiscing about my best friend at 15 and how she was the first girl I ever had a crush on. I was yearning to write something soft and sweet, and the memories that surfaced immediately were those of her. Two years ago, it was just a song about being a baby gay, and now it’s a soft place to land for anyone at any point of their queer becoming.
‘Two Years’ is the next single off of your upcoming EP, Kid, which will be out in one week from when we are writing this! What emotions are feeling leading up to the release?
I’m so excited but also so nervous! ‘Two Years’ was the first song I recorded on the EP, and it started this ethos of play that I kept coming back to throughout the production process. I was just really intentional about each song’s sonic world evoking the very different experiences and feelings that each song is about. I’m definitely anxious to follow ‘Juno’ up with something that’s a bit of a sharp turn, but I’m more excited than anything to release a song that means so much to me and show that I’m a versatile songwriter in the process of doing so.
To us, ‘Two Years’ feels like a tale of a love come and gone, of a whirlwind summer, ofsomething that feels like maybe it will find it’s way back, what does this song mean to you?
‘Two Years’ is about a summer fling turned situationship. It’s about meeting the right person at the wrong time and romantic destiny and time reconstructing memory. More than anything, it’s about mourning the loss of but latching onto the past: a past love, a past life, a past self.
‘Two Years’ could easily be placed into any coming-of-age, summer-set movie, but if you had to pick one coming-of-age movie for this track to soundtrack, what would it be?
Before Sunrise!
We have two pieces of puzzle for the EP! Is there anything about Kid that you can tell us? What are you wanting fans to walk away from listening, feeling?
Kid is about coming of age at twenty something and honoring little me’s big feelings. I wrote the EP in 2023, so I’ve been nurturing it for over two years now. It’s made me feel nostalgic, but it’s also made me feel like I have my whole life ahead of me. I’ve smiled, screamed, cried, felt everything. Honestly, I just hope Kid makes you want to hug your younger self.
Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Just one last question before we go, what can fans look forward to as we close in on the last few months of 2025?
I just can’t wait for Kid to finally be out, and I can’t wait to start playing it live
