Welcome to The Honey POP! To start us off, can you tell us three things you’d like our readers to know about you?
Absolutely! I adore villains, for one, which is evident by anyone who reads my work. I have the biggest, loudest, and possibly the funniest family in the world, which helps aid my writing in the most real way. Finally, I love laughter and I love laughing with my readers the most!
Accomplice To The Villain
Congratulations on the upcoming release of Accomplice to the Villain! What are some of your current thoughts now that book three of your Assistant to the Villain series is out?
Thank you! Oh my gosh, I think the excitement around the series is always so infectious, and the payoff of it all makes me so happy. I find the most joy in storytelling, and the fact that the joy has spread so widely is incredibly humbling.
How would you describe your writing journey for the third book compared to the first two?
Fun. It was such a good time! I really know these characters and this world at this point in the game, and my confidence when it comes to storytelling has only grown. Along with my main character Evie, I get to celebrate all my emotional milestones with her and through her. The catharsis is always there and that time in my life becomes immortalized in my work.
We were so pleased to get a new perspective in Accomplice to the Villain. Out of all the characters’ POVs, which do you enjoy writing the most and why?
I enjoy all of them! Each character has their own distinct voice, so I’m never bored! I adore Evie because she is my touchstone for everything; my fondness for her voice will never waver because it’s so similar to my own, but all my characters capture something I always am excited to get back to.
Romance & Relationships
The main characters’ slow-burn romance makes some…considerable progress in this book. What would you say is your favorite Evie x Trystan moment?
My favorite moments with them are the ones that some might not immediately jump to. It’s the quiet, subtle moments of understanding between them, when you realize how close they actually are, how much they understand each other in the subtle little ways that say the most.
Speaking of romance and couples, we also love the different relationship dynamics in the supporting cast. How do you juggle the multiple perspectives and love lines in your books? What does that process look like?
It’s actually so much fun and as someone telling the story, it keeps me so engaged! Each couple has their own fun story to tell, their own banter, and their own conflicts; and getting to dive into each new chapter with them is like discovering something brand new.
What are some of your favorite romance tropes to read and write about?
To no one’s surprise, I adore grumpy x sunshine. It’s just something about that opposites-attract back and forth, about how one person fulfills something within the other that they didn’t know they needed. I love reading enemies to lovers as well, especially when the banter is hilarious!
TikTok & What’s Next
Like many other readers, we first found you on TikTok before you released your debut novel. How much has your experience creating skits on TikTok changed since then?
Truthfully, the way I make skits is so much the same! If anything, the books and the world expanding along with the audience has only made for a richer experience when I move from telling the story on the page to the screen of my phone.
You’ve got a few book launch events coming up soon! What are some cities you’re looking forward to visiting? Are there any cities that are still on your bucket list?
I have such a travel bug since I became an author, and I’ve been so fortunate to get to go to so many amazing places! I’m so excited to return to Australia in November. I have such a fondness for it and my best friend lives there, so for any excuse to go, I’m jumping on a plane!
Finally, we’re dying to know: what, if anything, can you tell us about the next book in the series?
I can’t say too much, but what I will say is with every book, the characters and the story are constantly surprising me, even when I think I know everything in advance. So, I’d say we are in for twists and turns none of us would guess.
