Girls Of Dark Divine By E. V. Woods

Our first August audiobook is E. V. Woods’ debut Gothic fantasy, Girls of Dark Divine! Think along the lines of Black Swan meets Phantom of the Opera, and you’ll get this novel. It follows a cursed ballet dance troupe called the Marionettes; all the girls are bound and controlled by the show manager, Malcolm. As they travel to a new city to perform, the lead dancer Emberlyn searches for a way out. She soon becomes entangled with a mysterious boy made of shadows, and the two of them work together to bring Malcom down.

Verity Vox And The Curse Of Foxfire By Don Martin

While we’re on the topic of debut novels, we have to talk about Don Martin’s YA debut, Verity Vox and the Curse of Foxfire! Set in a cursed and forgotten Appalachian coal mining town, this story follows Verity Vox, a witch-in-training. She discovers a curse put on the town by a traveling magician known as Earl. It’s up to Verity to break the curse, find a missing girl, and uncover the mystery of the ancient mountain. Oh, and did we mention there’s a sapphic romance in this book?

All The Tomorrows After By Joanne Yi

The final August audiobook on our list is Joanne Yi’s debut coming-of-age novel, All the Tomorrows After! We switch gears a bit with an audiobook that addresses the darker sides of grief, loss, and caretaking. Winter Moon dreams of finally saving enough money to move as far away from her mother as possible. But when her mother steals her savings, she has no choice but to accept an offer from her estranged father. Winter gets paid to spend time with her father and get to know each other before he succumbs to ALS. From their contract comes a story of family, forgiveness, and even first love.
