It has been a long time since a romantasy made us physically fall to our knees while reading, but we’re so glad to be back! Amalie Howard is quickly moving up our list of favorite authors with her new romantasy novel, Queen of the Night Sky.
Queen of the Night Sky is the epic conclusion to the Starkeeper duology, picking up a short while after the end of book one, The Starlight Heir. Newly recovered and acclimating to her role as Starkeeper, Suraya Saab joins King Roshan on a royal tour. Only the new king doesn’t act like the Ro she once knew, and she’s forced to use her powers to harm rather than help.
Inspired by Indian and Persian mythology, this romantasy sequel makes us want to shout from the rooftops. You’ll know what we mean after you read it for yourself. Here are three things that have us obsessed over Queen of the Night Sky by Amalie Howard!

Book Overview: Queen Of The Night Sky

Summary: The Kingdom of Oryndhr has been saved by the will of the Royal Stars. But King Roshan, once Sura’s best friend and chosen love, has changed. She can sense corruption growing in him, and her own magic is being twisted by his command to dangerous ends. As dreams of her strange shadow guardian return in force, she is left unsure of her path—and of her heart.
When an attempt on her life leads to her rescue on the back of an azdaha, the dragon-like creature she once thought a myth, Sura truly finds herself in uncharted territory—in a land far beyond Oryndhr’s borders. Everlea is full of magic, ruled by the deadly and enigmatic Night King, Darrius. And to Sura’s shock, Darrius is none other than the man in her dreams…and possibly her soul fated mate.
As a prophecy unfolds, the old gods awaken, and a war between kingdoms looms, Sura has no choice: she must fully embrace her destiny as Starkeeper and the entirety of her power before it’s too late. But all power comes at a cost…and darkness has a way of slithering into the smallest spaces.
Suraya’s Journey
Like any good fantasy sequel, Queen of the Night Sky dramatically widens our main character Suraya’s worldview. She’s plucked from her home in Oryndhr and ends up in Everlea, the realm beyond the Barrin Mountains. Although her Starkeeper magic has been restrained for reasons we won’t spoil, Sura still trains her body and mind to be stronger. She learns of the many different types of Everlean abilities. From kinetic magic to corpus magic, Sura experiences a new world brimming with magic. Not to mention the telepathy she now shares with a certain azdaha and king.
New Love Interest
When we saw that Queen of the Night Sky would be a “why choose” romance, we couldn’t wait to meet Sura’s new love interest. Only this wouldn’t be the first meeting between the two. King Darrius of Everlea made his first appearance in The Starlight Heir as the figure in Sura’s dreams. Let’s just say we were flipping between books to connect the dots. Though cold and unwelcome at first, Darrius soon grows fond of Sura. He always seems to know the right things to say and is as territorial as one might expect. And though we applaud his self-restraint, we knew it was only a matter of time before he fell hard.
Top-Tier Spice
Not only are the plot points seamless in Queen of the Night Sky, but the spicy scenes are also *chef’s kiss* through and through. We couldn’t pick our jaws off the floor. Even with the angst behind Darrius’s beastly curse and Sura’s magic suppression, there is so much passion between the two. They accept each other as they are. And there’s nothing breaking their bond. As for the “why choose” romance, it is exactly what you think it is and even more. Sura, Darrius, and Roshan are an incredibly powerful trio. Their collective chemistry absolutely popped off the page, and we had to take a few laps around the room to process.
With a seamless plot, consistent callbacks, and top-tier spice, Amalie Howard’s Queen of the Night Sky is a phenomenal read! We want to scream from the rooftops and tell everyone to pick up this sequel.
