Well-Balanced Characters
For starters, we love a well-balanced quartet of characters like Team Helsing in The Escape Game. They each have a motive for winning the prize money. And they also possess a specialized skill that helps the team through each round. Carter is a math genius. Adi decodes word puzzles. Beck designs his own escape rooms. Sierra has the advantage of being on the show last season. Even with a rough start, we rooted for Team Helsing both on and off the set.
Different Escape Room Themes
Although we aren’t the best players at escape rooms, we can appreciate the attention and details that go into the setting in The Escape Game. We won’t spoil the themes of each challenge, but the escape rooms maps and set designs are unreal. And then the authors direct each scene and new clue in a way that readers can see and understand for themselves. It was so incredibly fun to read and follow along, even if we wouldn’t have been able to contribute much to the team’s success.
Multiple Twists
Moving on from the escape rooms to the murder mystery, we had no idea what was coming for us in The Escape Game. It felt like the more we knew about the night of the murder, the less it was adding up. The suspects threw us off their scent well. Our predictions were not even close, but we did have unsettling feelings here and there. The big reveals and multiple plot twists near the end were too good and well worth the arduous journey. And let’s not forget the unexpected invitation at the end…
